Buying Used Avensis

Hi guys

I am planning on buying Avensis from 2000/2001 with low mileage (60-70k) and installing LPG in it. I am looking for opinions on if it is worth it or should I rather look at the newer model? Which model, from the older ones (7-12 years old) is the most reliable? I am based in Edinburgh; any advice in this matter would be of great help before I commit to the purchase. Also if you know some really good and reliable LPG fitter in the area (Edinburgh +60 miles) please let me know.

Thanks

Hi Rafal

Presumably you want to install LPG for economy, but there appears to be only 6 LPG stations in Edinburgh and I would imagine that the cost of buying and installing an LPG kit will be a significant proportion of the 2000/2001 cars purchase price. Why not go for a more recent diesel model? Have you tried searching autotrader?

Hi

Yes, there are few stations in Edinburgh and it is more than enough for those who need to fill their cars up with LPG. I have got few friends up the North who have cars running on LPG and they say that they would never come back to anything else other than LPG. Diesel is extremely expensive now and even though LPG price goes up along with other prices, the savings are truly significant.

Yes, the cost of Toyota Avensis from 2000/2001 will be pretty much the same as the cost of fitting LPG, but while I want to buy a car with low mileage, 60-70k, it does not really matter because I know that it will run for years to come and will be in excellent condition. That is enough for me, to buy good reliable car with low mileage and fitting LPG into it sounds like a success to me. I do not want to spend 4-5k on a car that will be worth 70-50% of that year later if I can spend 1k on a car, another 1k on LPG and have excellent car running cheap for years.

What I need is a horse work that runs cheap and is reliable. I need to travel to Glasgow from Edinburgh every day. That means that after only one year the savings will pay the cost of LPG back. Next year will be pure profit. I used to have Toyota Carina E and I know that Toyotas, especially the older ones are truly reliable cars that is why I came with this plan.
