Gen Iii

Hi all,

As I said in an earlier post I pick my my new Gen III on Friday and as usual they asked me if I wanted the Supaguard for £299, but I declined it as having had it on my Gen II I wasn't that impressed with it. What I was wondering could anyone reccomend an independant valeter in the Hampshire area that does this sort of thing, be it Autoglym, Diamond Bright etc.

Any advice would be gratefully recieved,

Regards,

Dave.

Thanks exguitarman,

I have ordered some collinite after having read the good reviews that it has got, I will try that as opposed to getting it valeted, prob be happier doing the job myself anyway, and as you said save a shedload.

I had Collinite put on mine by a professional detailer. The key thing is to put it on a panel at a time and VERY LITTLE; just a light haze. Then buff it off as per the instructions. If you put it on too thick [a] the protection isn't noticeably better and it takes a lot of elbow grease to get it buffed.

The Detailer also told me to make sure nobody puts detergent onto it (you know, that stuff the Eastern European car wash people spray on before giving your car the first rinse.) Apparently the detergent is bad news for the Collinite.

I've been very pleased with the results of only ONE coat, so two or more would be awesome.

Enjoy!

I bought a kit with Collinite wax and Carlack 54 paint cleanser/sealant. I was ill during December to January, and I wasn't able to clear off any leaves or bird lime in that time. I notice my car roof has a stain from one leaf, and I hoping it is just in the wax?

Evening after waxing you still need to remove any bird lime within a few days (some species seem to have really nasty droppings).

Seagulls seem to take great delight in bombing cars... they have an evil grin on their pretty little faces as they line up - and with a slight twitch of their wings the car gets one on the back window, one on the roof, one on the windscreen and one on the bonnet.... now where's that shotgun

Hi

I am suprised at your statement about the detergent, as I understood the Collinite was inpervious to detergent, that is one reason for using it.

I was told to avoid detergent as it will attack the Collinite. Check out the instructions on your pack if you want (once you get it). I prefer to err on the side of caution.

Hi

I did not get any instructions with my tin, just the tin, since my last post I looked up the advert on eBay, there it says its detergent proof.

Just what I read.

You need to be sure that you are reading what the manufacturer says, rather than some retailer advertising.

Here is what it says on the manufacturer's website:

Super Doublecoat Auto Wax (No. 476s)

One of the finest paste type auto waxes available. Easy to apply and absolutely DETERGENT PROOF. Collinite Super Doublecoat is guaranteed to outlast and outshine any other competitive auto wax, polish or protective coating under any conceivable condition. That's why it's called the PERMANENT AUTO WAX. No hard rubbing or buffing... and no special applicator is required. Collinite Super Doublecoat will last a full year, even under adverse conditions. Clear coat safe.

But under the FAQs on the same site it also says:

6) How long does your wax last?

Paste Wax (476, 885): 9-11 Months depending on UV exposure.

Keeping your car in the sun all the time will slightly reduce these figures, and so will washing your car constantly with highly potent grease-cutting soaps. The wax is meant to protect your paint from the elements, so anything more than a non-abrasive soap is not necessary. Many times, hosing off your vehicle and drying it off with a towel will keep it looking great while preserving the coat of wax you applied.

It's a sensible, conservative statement and gives good guidance in my view. Collinite 476 gives excellent protection and unless my car gets extremely dirty, I find that a wash with a soft hose brush and cold water is all that it needs for its weekly wash.

Hi RR

Sorry did not mean to affend,it was just what I read, the polish I used on my Jaguar recently had PTFE in it as I posted the other day, I washed the car with bucket and sponge, it had not been touched since before Christmas, due to weather and illness,I got frozen doing it, so just hosed it off, it was amazing the next morning, it was just like I had polished it, so I know that one works,

Then I read the posts on here about the paint being iffy on the Prius and the stupid price dealer are asking for the paint protection, mine wanted £399, which made me turn to the Collinte wax, I know nothing about it again only what I have read on this forum, where people have said how good it is.

Hope this clears it up.

No worries Colin; no offence taken at all. But thanks for checking! :)

The way I see it, we have these discussions to arrive at the truth, not to take pot shots at people and not to win arguments for the sake of being a "winner". Once clear and persuasive evidence has been produced, it behoves the parties to recognise that, stop disagreeing, adjust their position and move on. It feels to me that such is your approach too.

So absolutely no offence taken and I am delighted to learn that the Collinite on my car sounds more robust than I had thought!

P.S. When I was a kid, my dream car was an MGB GT. So somebody with your nick already has lots of brownie points with me. Even more so because you are a fellow Jaguar driver! Wahey! :yahoo:

I don't let any chemicals from those hand car wash places come near my paint.

Whilst I use wax after polishing, more of a Dodo Juice fan than collonite but hey each to their own, I do treat it after the wax also with a compatible sealant that keeps the gloss etc.

A wash is brilliant as it requires just a little snowfoam and a rinse followed by a gentle dry.

Hi RR

Jaguar until Monday, I collect the Prius around 2pm, its been hard work getting it due to the finance, still not completely solved but near to,

I have an offer on the table, but am trying today to get a better quote, fingers crossed, if only Toyota had added my on cost to the price of the Prius I would now have had it for four weeks.

Just a note for someone who asked me about the sat nav discs, today I went and signed for the car, they are now getting it sorted for Monday, I asked the guy if it was now all sorted, ie Sat nav yes he told me hang on I will get the key, he handed me a box with 3 CDs in and there was one in the car unit so the answer was 4 sat nav discs, the !Removed! car would not start again, he told me the Battery had been change and that someone had left a light on inside, iffy,so we jump started it again, it was to cold to do much else, there was still no top/lid on the fuse box, he told me this was on order and should be in, over the weekend, so from my part its all go, they have to sort their end out now, he said he would have their cleaning man on it, to give it a full valet.

So guys there it is,roll on Monday, then I will become one of you.

Hi Colin,

Let us know how you get on when you get the car. Pleased the SAT NAV discs are sorted. Ensure the starting problem is sorted. Be very careful of fully closing the boot and that ALL the internal lights are off; including the vanity mirror lights behind the sun visors or you will find you will get a flat 12v Battery.

Good luck. Chris.

Hi Chris.

Thanks I wil make sure about that, I have a large power pack with a tyre pump on it, but I have ordered a smaller unit just for jump starting, dont want to get caught out while in France, soon to go on hoiday.

The sat nav seemed to work ok, he gave me a box with 3 other discs in,he told me the 12v Battery had been changed, it was so cold here today, 10 minutes out there I almost got frost bite, I will check it out again on Monday when I collect the car I caanot wait to get it.

will keep you all posted.

Hi all...well collinated my car today and I must say that I am very impressed with the finish, easy to put on and to polish, I will def be using collinate from now on. One thing that I am a bit concerned about is that on other posts people have said that on the gen III they get a disc explaining how to use the park assist, the only disc that I got was one with basic instructions on using the car.

Can anyone else who has a gen III confirm that they got this disc with the car, thanks again for all your replies regarding collinite.

Regards,

Diverdave.

I've never actually watched it, it is so easy to operate. The individual clips for each function are on youtube as well.

Where it is £14.25 for a 9oz tin. £17.25 including postage. Also for those of you in the area stated below, delivery charge is reduced by £1.

" Please note the Local delivery option is only available to people living in Chesterfield (Derbyshire) / Worksop (Notts) / Mansfield (Notts) and surrounding areas. "
