Room For A Push Bike In The Back?

Does anyone on here use their Auris to transport a mountain bike around?

I'm moving address soon and can manage to move all my stuff without the need for a van, so i don't really want to hire one just for my bike, and i'm not looking to carry my bike around once i get it to my destination, so this will be a one off and won't be worth buying a bike rack for.

If anyone else is able to do this i would be interested in some tips, as i struggled with my Mondeo when i owned that, and it was a much bigger car.

Cheers

I have done this.

Put the rear seats down and remove the front wheel of your bike, et voila no problem.

It amazed me how commodious the Auris is, I shifted a 120 litre immersion tank in mine without any access or storage problem. I was impressed to say the least.

Thanks guys, the wheels are quick release so I will whip them off and give it a go.

If anyone had tried but failed I would have got the van to save the risk of scratching any plastics.

I wouldn't recommended putting bikes in the back. I have destroyed an Almera doing this. Depending on how how often you want to do it and how tight the bike will fit, your car would be scratch central in no time, and if I were to buy an Auris in a years time I would go for the one without scratches. Can I recommend you get a Thule Clip on here.. http://www.car-roofracks.co.uk/cgi-bin/thule-clip-on-bike-rack.cgi You can buy it from anywhere for around £100. I have one using a boot protector and stickers to protect the car from the bike rack itself. This thing is seriously solid. I carry my Canyon Mountain Bike around 3 times a week on the motorway and it takes about 1min 20 seconds to get going from your driveway.

Thanks for your reply, but you missed an important bit of my first post... it was a ONE OFF

I had to move my bike from my home location to work, and i put plenty of cardboard down in the boot to prevent scratching or marks, and there were planty of bags surrounding it to prevent any movement.

I got the bike to my destination with no marks or scratches on the car :toast:

Bit of a late reply but I have had 2 in the back with the rear seats folded down.

one had the front wheel removed, and mine is a folding MTB (Dahon Matrix 07) however it was at a push so we got a Halfords jobbie for £35 which seems to do the trick :)

Plan on keeping your car for a long time and/or high milage, that way you can just ignore scratches dents n dings as it'll be pretty much worthless anyway when you want to sell it, and just use it for your convenience without worrying about the small stuff or spending £££ buying stuff to protect it :0)
