Smt 02 Mr2 Roadster - Problems-Gearbox Pump, Actulator (That Controls

Hi all,

I have a 52 plate semi-automatic toyota MR2 Roadster. It has only done 50,000 and has a full service history, however, stalls when put into gear and reverse.

I have had it looked over by a local Toyota garage and they have advised i need a new pump for the gearbox (that controls the clutch), an actulator (that controls the gears) and a new control unit.

I have been quoted £6000 to get this fixed which is more than the cars worth (£4500 parts, £1500 labour).

Does anyone know if this can be fixed cheaper and if cheaper parts can be brought?????

I'm in the same boat. Did you replace the clutch? I did and it started happening. I put the car on a lift and the gears work fine. Up to 110 km/h apply brakes and the car downshifts from 5th to 1st. When a load is appied the car stalls. I'm in Japan and the dealership cant find another way. I am calling toyota mech friends state side to ask for second opinion. Keep you posted. Please do the same.
