Alloy Wheels And Trims Question

Hi everyone!

I took one of the wheel covers off the other day and quite liked the look of the alloy wheel hidden underneath. Especially as it's in a Grey colour, looked quite nice against my Grey Prius.

Has anyone taken their covers off and found a suitable centre cap for the middle at a reasonable price? Some pictures would be nice too.

Also, I've tried to find them but to no avail, has anyone fitted 17" wheels to a Gen 2? Just wondering what they'd look like as the Gen 3 looks so nice with them.

So sorry folks, I notice this has been asked before.

However, my wheels are in quite a state with corrosion. I've only had it one month now and it's a 2007 under warranty from the dealer. Would it be worth trying to get them changed?

Hi,

I have a 2007 Prius and had the front alloys changed last year under warranty due to the amount of corrosion on them.

Re the centre caps Toyota dealers can get them but if I recall they add up to over £50 for all 4. There was a thread very recently with links to the caps and options, have a search. Its a lot of money for 4 centre caps but one wheel trim is near that price.

PS Ive repaired several wheel trims on mine, using fibre glass filler, plastic undercoat and silver spray finishing with a laquer. It doesn't actually take much time other than drying time between coats. Initial cost about £25 for all the tins and I've refurbished 3 trims so far with initial purchase, I do them as they need it. Once on the car you would be very hard pressed to spot the refurbished ones.

last thought why did Toyota fit covers to alloys anyway. Why didn't they just fit really nice looking alloys. Am I missing something. I did consider taking covers off but the grey doesn't really suit my cars colour IMO.

a pure guess but I bet they fit the covers to get the emissions down and the mpg up ;-)

Have a search on priuschat. I seem to remember a long thread about this with part numbers identified and (US) prices.
