Having just bought a new Yaris TS this week,I tried for several hours to get a connection from my iPod through the Tom Tom radio/satnav..and have so far failed. I keep getting'unable to connect..try another cable'...am using the original iPod cable.

I have spoken to my local dealer and they say a few people have had this problem, but they are unable to solve the problem yet.

Have any other owners had this problem, and if so have they had the problem resolved yet?

Appreciate any replies...thanks

Hi - Have same problem - Just been to Toyota dealer to make sure i am not being dumb - but his iPhone doesnt work in my Yaris either - Worked in his Auris though (Though he didnt have tomtom unit) in fact only one of 4 MP3 players were seen by the tomtom / audio system - Looks like there is a compatability problem here

Hi - I collected my new Yaris TSpirit on Monday last week and I also have the same problem with connecting my Ipod. When I try to connect using the original ipod cable it states "External USB device is not supported". I have checked the manual and I think it depends on what pod you have although the link provided which should show ipod compatability doesn't appear to work. I have an Ipod Touch 3rd generation so would that thought that should be compatable. On the upside I have managed to connect by iPhone to the tom tom and download my phone contacts. I will do some further investigation and let you know if I find out anything, likewise if you come up with a solution can you please let me know.

Thanks

I think you need to purchase a special fitted ipod lead that plugs into the back of the TNS410. It wont work if you connect via the USB socket.

This cable is about £150 from a toyota dealer. The head unit has to come out to fit i believe

Pentagon Toyota are selling a Yaris ipod lead for £143 on eBay, or for about £128 from their parts site.

Anybody had any luck with a non Mr T lead connecting their ipod into the Satnav etc?

I have confirmation that there is indeed a special cable needed for the Ipod for use with the TNS410 It appears that the dealers are not aware of this in some circumstances!!

I have not been able to find it anywhere else. The unit is made by Eclipse (part of Fujitsu) and is very similar to the model called the AVN4429. BUT...its not exactly the same as the unit supplied to Toyota. So the cable has to be supplied by the dealer. :-(

The cable that Pentagon are selling seems to use the same part number and picture as this site: http://www.shop4toyota.co.uk/product/USB_%26_iPod_Interface_Kit_PZ473-00267-00

This is for another type of head unit and if you notice the script it states that its not suitable for TNS 510 or TNS 410. Its easy to get confused with all these different leads. Trouble is that Toyota themselves can get confused!! :-)

Hi I have the same car and the same problem (after being assured by the salesman the system was full ready for ipod). I have also contacted Fujitsu Ten (Eclipse) and they have given me a contact in the usa called Mitocorp. These people have the IPC-409 leads in stock at a cost of $34.99 plus shipping. Now that I have looked at the full installation guide for tthe TNS410 I'm not sure this eclipse lead will work without modification.

The Correct Toyota part number is PZ422-E0332-00 and consists of 2 simple leads, 1 to conect to the head unit conection block (the one supporting the usb already installed) and this then fixes behind the dash and terminates at the passenger glove box. The 2nd shorter lead connects to the 1st lead and is fed into the glove box and connects to the Ipod. I have been quoted around £170 which is OTT even if it may include fitting. An additional cost I don't want to pay as I was told by the salesman the unit would support my Ipod.

Hope this helps, interested to hear how you get on.

I've had the same problem with my iPhone (3gs). It will connect to the TomTom but can't connect to the radio. Are there different sets because the one in my car that I've taken delivery of today has a model number 13836? Sorry if I'm being dim/naive.

Toyota GB and TomTom need to sort this out. I was assured by my dealer that the TNS410 supplied with my 2011 Yaris T-Spirit would allow me to play music from my iPod/iPhone.

Having been through all the manuals and looked around online, I can't find any way to get this working. I took the car back to the dealer this morning, and watched as one of their salespeople stabbed randomly at buttons on the unit before declaring that he didn't know what the problem was.

I've tried with a 6th generation iPod Classic 80gb and my current iPhone 4 32gb. The best I can get is sound from the iPod Classic out through the headphone socket into the 3.5mm Aux port in the centre console, but obviously this cannot be controlled by the head unit or the steering wheel remote. Neither device is recognised when I connect using an Apple 30-pin to USB cable. That's not 'iPod integration' in my book and I'm not paying another £150 for a cable that should have been included.

I'll probably go the memory stick way as then I don't have to pay for a very expensive cable. Does take a while for the tracks to come up and I guess each time it reads all the stick ie nothing kept in a cache in the cars system.

Wow,

Really pleased I found this forum. Collected my new Yaris T Spirit yesterday (my third Yaris)and couldn't work out my iPod wouldn't work the TNS410 until I looked here! Not paying £150 for a cable, so will stick with using the AUX socket. A bit disappointed though as this one of the reason's for changing my 2yr old TR model.

As a side note I have my phone paired and hands free works ok but I can't send text messages from the unit as it says check phone settings and just stores the message in the head unit. It doesn't display texts that people send me either. Another reason for upgrading my car that doesn't appear to work.

It's a Yaris though and I love it!

I go with the memory stick/CD method which brings up the album, artist, track on screen etc from my MP3's as I don't have an I-pod but am I missing something here .... can't you just connect the I-pod through the USB port via a normal USB to I-pod cable, I saw a cable like that in Poundworld the other day but if I'm wrong no problem or is it that you just want to hide everything? Personally I wouldn't leave an I-pod or USB stick in the car anyway.

Pete.

Hello there ladies and gents,

Like all of you I am quite cheesed off about this issue because like all of you I was led to believe that we could simply connect our ipod and control it through the tomtom display. I do not think that connecting it through the auxiliary port counts as a feature as this costs about a couple of pence to fit in the car and it is not the same. Another thing which annoys me is that I have looked in the Yaris manual and the TNS410 guide provided in the car and on the toyota website and nowhere does it tell you that you need an extra wire that I think you will all agree is a bit too expensive. In fact it was from this forum that I found out about this wire.

I was wondering however if any other wires would fit. In my old car I used a 'BUS control in' wire to connect the ipod and I know that a lot of audio systems have various combinations of ports you can use. I have tried to find the specs of the TNS410 but have had no success.

BTW apart from this issue the car is great.

If it is the IPC-409 cable, you can get them on US eBay for $19 with free shipping to the UK! That's about £11.90

Must be worth a gamble for someone to try one! :-)

That's how I sourced my cable for my 2008 SR with a previous version of the inbuilt satnav also made by Eclipse.

I got two from the USA for just $35 when they were £120 each from a dealer in the UK.....

I have just collected my new Yaris T Spirit and I complained to the salesman about the cost of the required Ipod cable. I managed to get a third of the price taken off. The cable will be in on friday to the local dealer parts store. I will fit this. Still expensive but at least it will make the use of the Ipod worthwhile. :-)

Toyota should really include it as standard in my opinion.

Yes it reads the Memory stick every time the unit is switched on but it only takes a few seconds to load again. I put some MP3 files onto a cdrom and memory stick which is a lot of music for the system as both can be loaded at once you just change the mode..... radio/cd/usb. I'm very happy with this method but can I ask again, can you connect the I-Pod via the USB port?

Pete.

You can connect an iPod to the USB socket, but it doesn't then allow you to play music via the TNS410.

The best I could get the USB socket to do was charge my iPhone. I did also manage to get an iPod Classic to output music from the headphone jack to the Aux port, but neither of these things count as integration, as the control of the device is still handled on the device, not via the TNS410 touchscreen or steering wheel remote.

I took delivery of my new Yaris this week and am having exactly the same problem. I registered on this website to post the exact same topic as you have done. I've contacted my dealer who says he will look into this but it's been a couple of days and I haven't heard anything. I'd read that some owners had to buy a £150 wire from the dealer, however this isn't ideal since you assume that the car will support your player. I will post again if I get an answer from the dealer. Hopefully something will be sorted soon.

I have just fitted the correct cable from the Toyota dealer and the ipod now works correctly. Its an easy job.

Here's my guide on fitting the ipod cable to a 2008 SR.

The cable is different, but the process of removing the unit so that you can get to the rear to attach the cable will be the same.

Thanks alfiejts - I did actually watch your video so I knew what I was talking about when I spoke to my dealer. It does look like a fairly straightforward process if you're not afraid of a bit of DIY!

My problem (and that of some others in this thread) is that the 'full iPod integration' we were promised by various dealerships is an optional extra not a fitted part at the point of purchase, contrary to what we were told during the sales process. It may just an education issue - that Toyota need to ensure their salespeople aren't miss-selling their products.

There's a lesson there because if you look under Yaris accessories online or in the printed accessories brochure, the iPod integration kit is clearly there as an optional accessory for the inbuilt satnav.

Not denying what the dealers might have suggested otherwise, but it shows you always need to do your onn research as it clearly states that is an extra in the accessory brochure....
