Loss Of Drive D4D

Latest problem with my 2003 D4D 61000 miles.

Engine warning light comes on and drive is lost, engine still running but there is no drive at all so its not in limp mode.

Switch off and restart and everything is ok again and engine warning light is out.

This has happened twice in about 100 miles and there is no warning before it happens so is somewhat scary.

Has been into local independant garage and they cannot find any fault codes and haven't been able to replicate the problem.

Hi

Sorry forgot that bit, its a manual gearbox Rav4 GX 5door 61000miles. Solid flywheel.

Just to add insult to injury the wifes DMF has gone on her 02 NRG 41000 miles on Saturday, exactly a year to the day that mine went!!

2 Ravs on the drive and they're both broken!! Just in the process of buying a 2.0 petrol Grand Vitara that will hopefully transport us about without too many issues.

hello mate

let's speak the same tech language first.

when said "no drive" -- what does it mean? Whether the gears lever is being shifted to the 1st gear?

what is going on when released the clutch pedal???--check with tacho dial -- any RPM changing available?

when asked for help - you should be very precised but not give us a chance to ask more questions.

Cheers/Igor

Hi

When it goes there is enough power to coast at walking pace to the side of the road without stalling. When i dip the clutch the revs go up ok but when you engage the clutch there is not enough to drive the car forwards in 1st gear. Both times it has gone i've been traveling in 4th or 5th at approx 50mph (from memory)

I turn off the ignition and restart and all is fine again. The trouble is when it has gone and you're holding up a load of traffic I have just tried to get it going as fast as possible so I haven't done too many tests to see whats going on.

Regards

Paul

Thats not a loss of drive its a loss of power.

It will have stored a fault code. Get it read and let us know what it is.

Hi

Apologies for that, loss of power it is then.

Two garages have tried to get the codes but are unable to communicate, both have had no troubles before so i'm at a loss now especially as we are now trying to get the wifes car repaired as well, need a second mortgage soon! :censor:

Paul

Now the situation becomes clear with power loss.

O try with fuel filter changing and check with condition of an EGR valve and check with

SCV on the pump. It looks like you restrict the engine with diesel.
