Spare Wheel On Mpg

Hi

As im waiting for my aaygo to arrive and ive never actually bothered to check the GF's, im assuming the aygo has a steel wheel spare? If so would removing this and going with a can of foam offer any positive gains on mpg or too little to notice? I understand the issues with foam rather than a spare.

Take a look on Toyota's website. New cars, Aygo, specification, wheels. That should tell you what you want to know! Did you not check before ordering? :) Has your GF never checked her car?

The difference would be negligible so I really wouldn't bother. I do carry a tin of Holts Tyre Weld foam as well as the spare just in case though. Asda were selling them for £2 a tin recently

Someone ran into the back of my Aygo. The spare wheel well was distorted but the steel spare absorbed a lot of the impact and I'm convinced it reduced the amount of damage.

I'm definitely leaving mine in place!

I remember reading an article in a buffbook* a few years ago where they found that removing weight had very little effect on the car's performance and mileage, and that extra weight actually improved some aspects such as high-speed cruising due to increased momentum and lower ride height.

Aerodynamics, tyres and of course driving style affect a car's performance a lot more than a few kilos of weight on the inside. Keep your windows up and your tyres inflated and don't get a Roof Rack.
