I am in the process of replacing afront bumper on a 1992 surf. Can any one tell me if the whole front needs to come off

Hi there,

are you replacing the chrome bumper part, I'm guessing so as they are prone to rust?

If so the you will need to undo 2 nuts, 11mm socket I think, located one in each wheel arch in front of the tyre, they are in a recess - hence socket not spanner.

Then you can drop off the whole bumper and lower valance by undoing the big support bracket underneath the front - 4 bolts - 14mm spanner or socket I think.

If you have an A bar then drop that of first BEFORE the bumper, again 4 bolts - 14mm spanner/socket I think - oh don't forget to disconnect any spot light wires. The indicators should have enough spare wire to tilt the bumper/valance section forward and undo the connectors, before lowering and removing. Helpful to have a helping hand at this point.

The chrome bumper is attached to the valance by about 6-8 short bolts, again 11mm

I did my chrome bumper about 2 weeks ago on a 93 surf, took about 4 hours and I snapped about 3 rusty bolts, allow plenty of time and soak them in wd40 - if possible overnight.

Have fun!
