Auto Transmission Gear Indicator Light

hi, as the title says, should there be one. dont drive much on the dark and only just noticed that the gear selector is lit up (dimly) but no indication which gear you are in.

after some time i will learn to feel where the gear is but this is mainly for my wife who doesnt drive that often.

Can't advise on the exact model as I don't have an auto but going by what you say - is there any chance that the indicator lamp has previously been replaced by an incorrect bulb of lower wattage ?

In such a scenario, I would be inclined to replace the bulb (making sure to get the correct type) and clean the contacts when replacing it. You would at the same time see if anything might be blocking the light.

My thoughts for what they are worth - best of luck

thanks for reply, but there is a light that lights up the letters, P,D,R,2 etc but quite dim and cannot tell which gear is in.

if i know that there should be a light then i will have a go at taking apart the centre console but i cannot see any screws or fixings.

next step, i suppose, is to just take it apart anyway and have a look. anyone help to tell me where to start to get the case off?

i have vitz 2006 model. its automatic .the light indicator showing R,D,P are not working.please help
