Misting Up

I've noticed recently that my Avensis is misting up badly (when parked up).

Other cars parked close to my car aren't misting up at all.

The misting is so bad that the whole car smells damp.

So far I can't find any leaks in that the carpet is dry.

Do you think that leaving the vents open might help?

Any advice would be good news.

Do you use the recirculation button when driving?

No, I have the air con set to draw air in from the outside of the car.

The car doesn't mist up when in use, only when parked up overnight.

I was unaware that this car had a pollen filter.

Do you have any information as to where this filter is and how to change it?

My model is a 2002 (1.8 VVTI Vermont) version, not the newer shape.

might have been useful putting that in your first post ...

I have no knowledge of that car so can't say whether it does or doesn't have a filter in the ventilation system but it's probably worth checking into.

Check your handbook, if there is one in your car it will tell you where it is and how to change it.

I was looking through my handbook last night for something, and i found the instructions on how to change this filter.

hello mate

physically what going wrong??? you switch ON the fan but its propeller can not circulate an air inside the car + blow towards of your wind glass. Besides - in order to prevent such smell origination - one should to vent (air) the A/C evaporator after each switching OFF during about 5 minutes. As to reply to your question -- change polen filter -- he is tide up to filtrate a dust air :)

Cheers/Igor

Hello Richard, I used to have that model, the cause is probably due to the pollen filters being dirty/clogged.

They are down behind the centre console, where your left foot is, you have to remove the carpet retainer plugs and pull the carpet down to reveal the holders, there are TWO of them and are quite fiddly to remove.

My guess is they are choked full of dirt and probably leaves as well.

If you have any trouble pm me I am in Waltham Abbey.

Thanks for your input Kryten,

I've ordered new pollen filters and as soon as they turn up I'll fit them and let you know if it cures the problem.

The pollen filters I ordered from Euro Car Parts turned up today so I set about fitting them only to find that the ones I'd been sent were for a left hand drive car, not happy.

To get them to fit I had to break off the padded hand holds.

I then spent the next 30 mins. (or so) attempting to get the top filter to stay in place so I could get the lower one in.

I'll find out tonight if the car mists up whilst it's parked up.

The filters I took out were totally black and even had a few leaves chucked in for good measure.

Hello Richard, I did say in my original post that they were awkward to fit, even when you are not supplied the left hand drive versions!

All the fresh air entering the vehicle passes through these first, so you should notice an improvement, the old ones were probably the originals, as the black you refer to is probably the charcoal coating on the Toyota originals which is used to elliminate odours, I guess the new ones were pure white.

That's right, they were pure white.

You'd think they would fit a clip to hold the top filter in place while you fit the lower one.

Oh well, another job that doesn't need doing again for a few years, thankfully. ;)
