Corolla E100

Hey all

I bought an E100 Corolla 1.6 CD a few months back. Mainly because my other car (vw polo gt) which ive had for many years now is a bit unreliable and ive just started a new job.

Heres a few pictures of it.

The silver polo in the background is mine.

I replaced the cambelt as soon as i got it as it was coming up for 120k miles. And ive just shelled out on five brand new Pirellis which have improved every aspect of driving it. Its a great car, really nice to drive.

However, it has a couple of issues which i cant quite diagnose.

The first, is whenever i touch the accelerator to move the car theres a small click, as though somethings engaging. Ive had a similar noise in other cars where the engine mount is nackered (ive changed the frontmost (rad end) mount one, the rearmost one needs doing also but havnt got round to it yet). However im starting to think its something more gearbox related due to the second noise.

The second noise which ive only heard in the last week is more of a rubbing, soft grind noise. Its only there when the car is moving, ive only heard it in 3rd 4th and 5th, and its only there when i touch the accelerator. As soon as i touch it its there, as soon as i let go its gone, regardless of whether or not the car changed speed or not. Its not there when i rev the engine with the clutch in. Doesnt seem to be coming from a particular side (almost sounds like its coming from both sides) of the car. Its from the front end of the car though.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Welcome to TOC  .

It's obviously difficult to diagnose a noise on a car on a forum although, from what you describe it could well be a gearbox related fault.
