Hi Guys

Getting into things now, can someone tell me what length wiper blade should be on the rear of an 07 T Spirit, the one thats on I think is 16 inches, there appears to be room for an 18 or even a 20 inch on, the area that the one on there does. is daft its only wiping maybe a third of the window, advice please.

I will measure tonight, unless someone else replies, but your comment "only wiping maybe a third of the window" sounds correct!

Still it is much better than my previous car, a Subaru Legacy saloon, which didn't have a rear wiper at all.

Hi Stompe

Yer thanks for your past posting that is the one I read, try your supplier but did not get very far, got the should be 16", but could get the 20" in today by late afternoon, but would not post it, told me to go to the web, as you said thats mad.

The people I have ordered it from were advertizing Velo blades but not the 660, so I email them, they asnwered in less than an hour saying they had one in stock, I believe it was £13.50 plus p&p.

I fitted an 18" blade to the rear of my old Gen II with no problems. It's still there now. I think a 20" would just fit, but I don't know how much reserve capacity there is in the motor - I'd hate to overload it and burn it out.

Anyway, the larger wiper was a great improvement. I must do the same on the Gen III sometime soon.

BTW, I've replaced all the original Toyota blades with beam blades. They are a whole lot better, and cheaper too.

Not heard of beam blades - sounds interesting though. Any brand that you would recommend?

Thanks

That's good service.

It will be interesting to know what you think.

The heated rear window doesn't look as if it goes higher than the 16" blade and from inside I can't see above where the blade wipes, so I thibk I may try the beam blades mentioned instead.

Hi David.

Its not the height I was after, it was width, the 20" wipes further to the right of the screen giving a larger clean area.

I've just measured the distance from the top of the sweep of the blade on the rear screen to the top of the rear screen and it's only 0.75" and the standard blade is 16", so any blade over 17.5" is going to sweep over the paintwork above the rear screen. I'd say the maximum size you can fit without damaging the paint is a 17" blade (or a 17.5" if they are available).

Why didn't Toyota put the wiper in the middle and have it clear a semi-circle ?

You have a Gen 3 I believe - we have Gen 2.....

By eye there is more than 2" before the paint on Gen 2

I've had good results with the Trico Neoform ones from Opie Oils. If you buy from them, make sure you wait until one of their offers, and register as a member of Toyota Owners Club.

I've also bought a pair of 18 inch ones, seriously cheap from eBay, as an experiment for the rear. These worked very well, but the black part of the blade went a bit white and yukky. I'll use the second blade when the first one dies, but I'll get better ones next time.

I have an idea that Bosch and others also do them.

If you haven't met them before, beam blades are also called flat blades. They are less bulky and more aerodynamic than the usual type, and fit to the screen way better than conventional ones.

Hi

As David has said the 20" goes no where near the paint, as I said it gives a couple of inches more clear screen, got to worth trying.

I don't have a problem putting a longer blade on the rear wiper, with two caveats

1- it matches the one that is there apart from length obviously!

2- it doesnt burn out the motor by putting too much load on it...

But i've found that while you are moving at more than 30 mph you don't actually need the rear wiper, the airflow keeps the rear window clear, it's only in traffic you need it....
