Can anybody out there help, i have just picked up my 2011 Avensis TR full sat nav unit. However i am having problems connecting my ipod using the usb interface on the front of the unit, for some reason it does not pick my pod up at all, wont charge or play. Any suggestions?

Yep, it does not work, the USB interface on the front is only for USB Thumb drives mate.

You need the following cables;

USB Cable for TNS 510 PZ457-00261-00

iPod cable PZ422-00260-00.

I recently got these from Kingo / Parts King for around £90 and fitted them. Toyota tech docs have clear fitting instructions and once it's fitted it's excellent, much better than the premium system's stone age (and more expensive) iPod control (Speaking from experience having had a premium in my Prius) giving you direct control of the iPod as well as full menu control.

It's a pity it's not fitted as standard, but that's the way it is.

You can use a USB drive in there, I had a Sandisk Cruzer 8GB but you can only browse through a certain amount of folders using the USB (More info on this in the IQ forum as it's the same system in there)

Sorry I can't give you better news.

I liked your answer. Anyone know if the 2010 Verso is the same? I'm trading in my Avensis for a T Spirit on Monday. :D

Fluffmeister your post is interesting as I've just got bought an Avensis TR and wish to plug my ipod in (I can use it through bluetooth but with limited options for controlling songs etc.).

How difficult were the parts you list to fit. I assume one runs from the head unit to the blankplate and then the other is used to connect the ipod to the newly fitted connection, is that right?

I'd be really grateful if you could describe the fitting in some detail as I'd like to avoid paying for fitting but have no experience of this sort of work (I do build PCs though which may help)!

Thanks in advance...!

I liked it too. Had a brief look at the documents for installing it into my 2010 TR Estate but decided against it fir two reasons, one the unit would have to come out of the dash and two the Toyota bits seemed expensive for what they are.
