Yaris '02 Plate Key Fob.....

Hi all,

The wife got a 02 plate yaris about two weeks ago. As far as we know it has remote central locking; however, it has an odd key with it. The blade looks normal for a yaris but the head of the key (plastic bit) has no buttons on it to lock/unlock, just some wording on the plastic which reads "Battery inside" It has central locking via the key.

She went to the main dealer today and they said they'd never seen a key fob like it before for a yaris and that she'd need to buy a new computer (ECU?) which would cost £500-£600. For obvious reasons she declined this.

I've heard you can get a used fob off eBay and a uncut blade (with key fob housing) and merge the two, then re-program it to your yaris. However, you need the code off the original fob to buy the same transponder. Our dilema is that we do not have the original key fob so can't get the code for the transponder.

£500-£600 is a bit steep so is there an alternative, cheaper way of doing this?

TIA

Hi,

Here is what I did. I recently brought a 04 Yaris MMT with one 2button Master Key and one Grey Key. I purchased an second blank hand used 2 button Toyota key(matching the serial number as on my master remote key). Also brought an Uncut key from eBay and got it cut as per my original key from local key cutter. I then removed the transponder from purchased used key and put it into the new cut blank key. I then used the technique mentioned in other posts to sync it with my wireless lock/unlock system. Which is working fine. I am still struggling to get my ECU recognise the new transponder, to start the engine. This isn't working even after multiple attempts to follow the mentioned steps.. Will keep you updated.

Ta,
