Yaris Hybrid

So the new Prius V is likely to be a seven seater here in Europe

Also, the new Yaris hybrid is likely to use a 1.3 litre engine! Wow, that'll be a seriously economical car is Toyota play their cards right. I wonder if they'll get it down to 80 or even upper 70's g/km?

Still waiting for info on the IQ EV though.

I wonder where they put the Battery pack?!

Either the car is going to be much bigger or there will be no boot

Be interesting to see how the extra weight affects the chassis and handling; Battery pack alone adds about 100kg IIRC :(

My one doesn't even reach a tonne and that's with a diesel engine! (Which actually weighs less than that Battery pack!)

Which Battery pack will that be then?

They've just said they're not using the Prius running gear. Perhaps they'll use the newer tech HV batteries which are smaller and lighter? Who knows! But you're probably right about the loss of boot space.

If they use Lion/LiPoly packs they will be lighter than the hydride and MUCH lighter than lead acid :D

That will jack the price up a lot tho' :(

I was looking at mine, and if they take out the spare wheel and reshape the whole undertray that it sits in, you could probably fit a prius Battery pack in the back without too much loss of boot space and the Yaris' sliding rear seats (Assuming they didn't take THAT out of the new model as well :censor: ) will certainly make the tradeoff less painful.

But the new Yaris is significantly bigger than my Mk1 (About 2 feet longer and a foot wider IIRC?) so there will be more space to play with too.

If they can keep the weight down the mpg will be ridiculous tho' :D

there are a new range of batteries that toyota will use from about 2012 or so.

these are about half the size and weight of the current HV units.

i believe that all new hybrids incl the auris and prius will be using them

I was happy to take a punt on the Auris as it uses the same drivetrain as the Prius, which is well bedded in. With a completely new design I'd wait a year for the faults to be ironed out.

The sliding rear seats are excellent. They must keep them!!

Agreed!! :D

Seriously, all small cars should have sliding rear seats. :yahoo:

Actually, when I was first looking at the Gen2 Prius with my other half who owns a yaris, the first thing we noticed is that it's basically a big Yaris. It follows a lot of the same design principles like huge interior space out of a smallish car. Shame the Prius back seat doesn't move like in her yaris so we could choose a bigger boot and less rear seat space or vice versa.

Sorry, that was a little off topic!
