Stranraer, South West. Not very many mechanics down this neck of the woods. 1 used parts dealer too which makes things awkward.

I have just found this link -

Could this part (MAP sensor) be causing problems i am having? I am experiencing hesitation and the car is jumping too. The only time its smooth is when i put my foot all the way down to the floor

Can someone please tell me what A, B and C are as seen in this picture? I am getting conflicting opinions regarding what is and isnt on my car. Some ppl are telling me that the car does not have a MAF. Some are saying its has a MAP. Some are calling a part (whichever part, wherever it is.... i dont know) an air flow meter. Maybe its that the terminology is so similar. I am confused

Air flow meters use heated cross wires to measure air flow on the intake.... I think from memory. The MAF/P measures the manifold air pressure to adjust the petrol mix and the terminal at the back of your photo is the MAP sensor with its connections.Mass airflow sensors were used on the 4.2 I think.

If you do a search on this forum for the 3sfe (engine code) and MAP and also try some of the symptoms, you'll get a good few ideas back.

Things like cleaning the throttle body and making sure the throttle is working properly. Having changed the engines on both my RAVs to entirely different systems, I can't refer to either the cars or my memory I'm afraid. If you'd been a bit closer I could have perhaps helped...and indeed we picked up a Iveco tipper there just 5 weeks ago.

Parts - you can try various on line used parts suppliers - I find they tend to be cheaper than the locals and have more stock.

Did your fault happen suddenly or just get worse slowly?
