What Fuel?

I bought my 2.2 Avensis 06 plate 5 months ago and have only put diesel i bought at tesco garage in it (as i live close by)

this morning however i ran out near a total garage so i filled up there and it seems that the car is running better i.e. smoother.

I dont know much about fuel but is there a difference in quality from garage to garage? i assumed it was all the exact same stuff?

cheers

Hello again, it's not all the same,

there has been a lot of discussion on this subject but the most popular views are to use a good brand like Shell, BP or Total. I have found Total Exelium to be very good for a few pence more. Most people including myself advise against supermarket fuel but that's just an opinion. I give my car a dose of Forte fuel treatment every now and then to keep the system clean as a belt and braces thing but with a top quality fuel you may not need it. I would add one thing, your engine does not like pottering around a low revs all the time as this will cause the EGR system etc to block up so if you are a steady driver like myself give the car a good blast every now and then and watch the crap come out of the exhaust.

Pete.

Same as u i live not to far from tesco , and use to always goin there either before work or on the way home coz it was handy . But once i tryed a diferent garage and started getn petrol with techron in it , After i cleared two full tanks off it the car just like came back alive , its !Removed! flying and using less petrol . Never im going near tesco again , the car use to be real slugish and use to eat petrol . I knw u said yours is diesel , but id say it is the same with the diesel 2 , my opinion it is maybe a bit cheaper in tesco , but its nt wrth it .

always found that when using ESSO, when i had diesls that they seemed to run a bit quieter.

many years ago when i had a BSA super rocket i always used 5 STAR grade.

the bike hads tendecy to pink when accelerating hard.checked ignition timing with timing disc and found it spot on.

tried all 5 star fuels available, only ESSO 5 star cured the problem.cost about then 4 gallons for a £1.00.

MEMORIES.

Generally fuel from 'real' petrol stations is better than from supermarket.

I tend to alternate; I usually use my local sainsbury as it's usually the cheapest, but now and then (Every few months) I'll run a tank or two of V-Power through it to help clean it out :)

I do notice a big difference between sainsbury's and the V-Power tanks; It's most pronounced if I run the tank nearly dry then swap.

The sainsburys makes the diesel clatter from the engine very obvious and you feel the power taper off very quickly after ~3500rpm.

Switching to V-Power changes the engine sound quite starkly and the engine almost purrs when it's running that :)

Even if I could afford it I wouldn't use it all the time tho' as V-Power changes the engines performance in a weird way; You loose a noticeable amount of torque at the low end, but you get it back at the high end, so if I know I'm in for a lot of motorway runs I often switch to the V-Power :)

I find with V-Power the mpg is actually worse UNLESS I'm doing lots of motorway driving (In which case it's better!?).

I only ever use supermarket diesel in my T180 but I ALWAYS add a decent additive package (Millers Sport 2 from memory)

hi mate

each time you got filled your tank with different quality fuel.

The more calorific efficiency the more smooth running of the engine and wise.

The calorific efficiency value is one of the fuel particulars.

I only use Shell in mine, a couple of reasons, my local Shell station is cheaper than both Tesco's and Asda, and I can use V-Power if I have not got any Millers Sport 4 in the boot to add to the diesel to bump the cetane rating up a bit.
