Need To Replace Airbags

My IQ has previously been a Cat C insurance write-off.

Previous owner has de-activated the airbags, and the knee airbag and steering wheel airbag have been removed - possibly activated.

Is it possible to replace these 2 airbags easily and at a cost cheaper than taking it to the Toyota dealership/can I do it myself?

Would welcome any advice/help.

Thanks

But would anyone compromise their's and others' safety by installing 2nd hand airbags, the history of which are unknown?

Just something to bear in mind. :)

Possibly activated? You dont know?

When an air bag goes off, the whole system needs checking out, there are sensors and ECU to consider replacing, not just the bit you see

Whoever checks the system out MUST be certain that replacing the air bags will reinstate the system to the original specification. What if the sensors and ECU have been removed too? You will be in for some severe expense if that is the case. Nobody in their right mind would just fit two new air bags in the hope they will go off in the event of a new accident

Kingo
