I've just been quoted £305 for 2nd service (Motorline Gatwick). So those who are on a service plan or thinking about it, can adjust their thoughts...

1st was around £120.

How much have you paid for 2nd service?

Mine is going in on Friday for the second service, but I have a service plan so I won't know the cost..in the past my cars has been uplifted, serviced and returned without a bill being proferred. As long as everything is done and the stamp applied, thats fine by me.

That means to use MrT for servicing four times to keep a five year warranty valid (I know you can use other independant garages too) will cost about £1000, give or take.

Thats dear, is it not!

My 20k service was performed in May 2010 (Inchcape Oxford) and was £201.10.

I am not sure if the price has gone up in the meantime, but my 10K and 30k were around the £120 mark.

Update:

The £305 quote quickly got to £265 (due to maximum discount for being a loyal customer) and then £260 (I couldn't help. If prices are that flexible...why not to haggle).

Meanwhile:

I approached an other Center nearby: they quoted £246. Felt better to book here as the price came close (under) to my expectation without haggling.

Got back to the first Center to let them know I choose not to use their service. Things started to spin up after that. They tried to keep my business. I appreciated that.

Turned out they had a break fluid change calculated into the price, which is £65 as stand alone service.

Has to be mentioned: only due after 2 years, our car is less than 1.5, breaks haven't been abused, IQ is not a typical break fluid boiler car anyway:)

They then offered a service without the break fluid change for £229.

Also, urged me to find out if this fluid change is included in the other quote.

The second Center was straight. It is not included but it isn't necessary either, due to car's age.

Also stated they check break fluid quality as part of the service but such young cars are better not disturbed unnecessarily.

(That's sounds fair to me.)

What do you think?

The brake fluid change is optional (has been in the past anyway) and is up to the owner.

If that is still the case, it should not have been included in the price that you were first quoted unless you said that you wanted it done after being given the option.

The last time I had a 2 year old Toyota serviced, under a service plan arrangement, the service person asked if I wanted the fluid changed but if I did I would have to pay extra, as it is not part of the "service" and therefore not covered by the plan.I declined and that was the end of the matter.( I had checked the moisture content of the fluid with an electronic gadget that I have, and it was perfectly fine.)

The price I was charged included brake fluid change so I must have got myself a bit of a bargain.

I think you did!

But maybe things have changed.

I went into the dealers this morning to confirm arrangements for the service tomorrow and no mention was made of having to pay extra to the service plan for the fluid change. So maybe it is now regarded by some dealers as part of the service and is included in the service plan, or the quoted price if you don't have a plan.

Who knows, different dealers approach it all in different ways so you can't always make direct comparisons.

Had my 20K a couple of weeks ago at Inchcape Sandhurst - £214 but no brake fluid change. Actually looking again at the invoice, doesn't look like they gave me the 10% online booking discount! I remember them showing this last time. That'll teach me not to check it thoroughly when paying!

Just got my IQ back from it's 2 year service and had a word on the telephone to the service advisor re. the brake fluid situation. He said they changed mine because there was enough money in my service plan "pot" to pay for it, if there wasn't enough I presume they would have asked me if I wanted it done, or not, and I would have had to pay the extra if I did want it done.

He said they always quote the cost of a 2 year service inclusive of the brake fluid change because Toyota advise it should be done, but it theoretically is optional and an owner could ask for it not to be done, and have the service cost reduced.I don't think he would tell the owner this unless he or she specifically asked.

£65+vat is significant for me, being retired. If I had more money it wouldn't be an issue!

It is necessary to keep an eye on the moisture absorption of the fluid but I checked mine last week and it is as good as new, as far as that is concerned.

When it has to be changed I will use my local independant garage which has an excellent reputation, and is much less costly.

Hi - I've just had a full 2-year service at only 13,000 miles (the first was done by the previous owner) and it cost me £283, if that helps. It included oil, washer fluid, brake fluid, air filter, gasket drain plug, oil filter and Battery trans (whatever that means). I thought it was expensive but the car has been running really smoothly since it was done.
