Celica Gen 7 Sump Sealant

The sump on my Celica Gen 7 has got to come off. It does not have a gasket, it uses a special Toyota sealant which is extortionately expensive for a one off use. Any suggestions as regards a proprietary substitute or has any Toyota mechanic a part used tube to sell. I am given to understand that silicon is not suitable.

you can use silicon, just not the ordinary bathroom/kitchen stuff. We tend to use Hylomar blue in most cases unless it's a sump kit in which you tend to get the sealant with it

Thanks I have done some further research with Hylomar. Hylomar recommend their 102 for pressed steel pans which has greater gap sealing properties and their Gasket 2000 or Hylomar Universal blue for a cast pan which has more accurate mating surfaces. Hylomar make sealants for the aircraft industry and are CAA approved so it's good stuff and a fraction (a tenth)of the price of Toyota's own sealant. Honda's sealant is very expensive too, but only half the price of Toyota's. You need a lot of patience to get the pan off sucessfully. Other than buying a Toyota seal remover a Draper putter knife is the ideal tool. Luckily access to the sump on a Celica is very good and there is nothing to remove except the under tray, but it's still a fiddly job.

Many thanks. I actually used Hymolar 102 which is more suited to pressed steel oil pans.... and no oil leaks! The blue is recommended for cast oil pans.
