Multidrive

I am in the process of buying either a Multidrive or 6 Speed Manual 1.33. Some of the car magazine reviews say the Multidrive is noisy, especially at higher speed. I suppose they mean 70 and above by this. Can anyone with a Multidrive advise on this/

Thanks

Indeed... because the multidrive can easily rev up to 3500+rpm in some high speed condition.

Take my experience as example, the main highway in the place I live was built on a big slope (~5 degree on average I would say). In order for my IQ2 to accelerate at ~60-70mph on the uphill side, the engine usually sits at 4500rpm or above.

I have got another car and it runs on a more powerful engine. It can handle the same condition at ~2500rpm, therefore it is quieter compare to the IQ.

However I havent got a chance to ride on a manual one, therefore I cannot compare between them. But I think you can have more control over the rev speed of a manual IQ, it is therefore queiter.

Are you still glad you brought the iQ3 1.33 with multidrive or do you wish you had gone for the manual 6 speed?

Hmmm I got the IQ2 :)

But I think an IQ3 is more suitable because the road is not flat here...

I don't have any choice but to buy a multidrive because my family sometimes use my car and non of them can drive a manual :)

If it was just me, I would have chosen the manual one anyday!

Thats the problem with reviews, not often does the writer compare with wot !

Al I can say is that our IQ3 is quieter than the Vauxhall Agila it replaced and noisier than the VW Touran. (None of them are "like for like" vehicles.

At 70 mph, on local (fairly flatish) dual carrigeways 20 mile run, I would not say the car is over noisy, although reaction to road surface noise is more prevalant than wind or engine speed noise.

You do have a radio to cover the noise !! (BUT THAT IS WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY)

Thanks for your reply. I take it that you are very happy with your iQ3 multidrive. I have tested both versions of the iQ3 and really liked the auto. I t was very nippy for the short time I went out in it. I have found an ex demo with leather and sat nav that's quite nice. It does have adjustable drivers seat and rear seat belt holders, so I think it's classed as a 2011 model even though it's a 60 plate. Trying to knock the price down to an acceptable amount.

My iQ3 was built and delivered to me in 2010 with the updated interior and has these features you list.

I'm going to have my second test drive tomorrow with a iQ3 multidrive. It is an ex demo with leather, navigation, iSport, mats and glovebag. The price though is quite high and I'm trying to get them to drop it. Registered in December 2010. I wonder what's it's value?

About £16400 is the price new for one of those with those options, as you are probably aware.

Take a bit off for a demo car.

Seems a bit pricey, as you suggest!

How much would or should be deducted for a demo car?

Maybe you could compare another car's price listed as "ex-demo" against it's "new" cost to get an idea of what discount to expect with respect to ex-demo and new.

They know what they would like for it and now it is down to your powers of persuasion and charm to get it for the price you want!

I am hopeless at it, but good luck to you!

For info i put 1.33 Dual VVT-i 3 Nav + Leather 3dr Multidrive with all options and it came out at 14517 on drive the deal so dont pay more than that for demo when you can get new for less.... Just tell the dealer you can get it through drive the deal and they should price match

Is it really as easy as that?

I would like to think it could be, but have my doubts!

I did it with mine... Got a iq2 with 1500 off.

To get the above you need to take a pcp but then all you do is pay it off, with how you was going to initially buy. Unless you want a pcp that is.

So they really seem to make their money on the credit arrangements side of things, rather than the car sale alone.

Changed days, I always believed you got a discount for "cash", but not any more apparently!

They dont though if as i said you just clear it down, i was told it had to run be more than 3 months, not sure how true that is but i did let mine go that long. I paid 200 in interest which off the 1700 i got off equals the net 1500. With the current pcp your also getting 3 years servicing free aswell, something i had to fight for.

I use to sell cars many years ago for a small dealer, so know the tricks. The salesman on the iQ3 demo said he can't drop the price. He knows I would like it so is holding out. I have phoned another dealer who will sell a white, rather than grey one with same spec (Multidrive, leather, navigation and isport) for just under £16,000. That's with the standard £450 discount showing on the Toyota site. I was hoping for more. But at the end of it, for about £500 more, I get a new car. Not one driven by lots of people and a small but very noticeable sent on the roof.

Found it. Wow I get a massive £2300 discount. Did a comparison with a Smart Brabus. Did include almost every option, and they had an enormous amount. Nearly £17,000 with a stupid £59.55 discount. I don't see why some review companies say the iQ is expensive, especially with all the safety tech on it. I think if you spec any of the decent Smarts up to the level of the standard iQ, they would probably cost more.

I would be interested to know what your dealer would say if you tell him the discount that you could get on a new one from D the D.

I expect he would just say go for it then, as he couldn't match it.(unless you sign up for finance etc. perhaps)

i think you're going to have to wait a bit longer for any decent discount on that motor in guildford, it's too new ,and specced up to get much off. you'll need to wait until at least the next number change to 11. mine dropped 2 grand over about 6 weeks, you just have to hold your nerve if you want it.I ended up with a 12 month old ex demo with only 4000 mls on it fitted with the toyota built in bluetooth and a style pack for under 10 grand. Suited me, got exactly what i wanted at a price i liked.

With no trade in to complicate the issue, that would make sense.

As long as there are no hidden snags with the process.

If it all goes well, let us know!

The deal is with a franchise toyota dealer

500 is a present as such for doing a pcp the rest is discount, the dealer has to hit a said number of pcps and they get a penalty if they dont, the drive the deal dealer is under his volume so discounting the car for a pcp will save them more then selling cars for cash, your dealer might be above his quoter.

End of the day they may say no but if they do even offer close, as long as it comes in cheaper than the demo price you cant lose really (factor in three months interest, though this will be less than the free servicing) - if they point blank refuse try another nearby dealer or use drive the deal.

Yes I have saved the deals on my iPhone to show the dealer. If they don't come up with a better offer, I would be mad not to take the deal from Drive My Deal.
