Edu Failed On 06 Avensis

Hi All,

On one Friday evening, three weeks ago, when I started the car from my Office car park, All sorts of lights were flashing in the dashboard. I was thinking that this was aberration and continued driving home. I did not have any problems driving home ( 4 miles) except that the light was still flashing in the dadhboard. Lights such as, VSC Off, Battery, Oil etc.

Then back at home I switched off and then tried to switch on, the car wont start.

I then jump started the car and took the car to a known mechanic the next morning but the car stalled in the middle of the road. Then I had to tow it down to him. He saw that the alternator failed and had it replaced. Even after that, the car would not start. Now after taking it to Toyota, they say that EDU, Electronic data Unit that controls the Fuel injection system failed. Just quoted £728 for getting the part and fitting it.

Have any one come across such a problem.

Why is such a basic item failing on a 5 year old car? Should I complain to Toyota officially as I feel I have been robbed.

EDU is

Electronic Drive Unit.

It amplifies the singals to higher voltage from the ecu and feeds them to the injectors.

Have you checked the wiring loom ?

How much is the part on its own ?
