Hand Brake Noise On Release

Hi All when I release my hand brake there is a type of clunk from the rear any ideas what it could be car has done 95000 mls. Any ideas ?

I think I am correct in saying your car has the wee handbrake "shoes" on the inside of the rear discs, which can obviously get purty darned wet in this never ending winter what which we are having. This can cause them to swell up slightly, become a bit spongy, and adhere under pressure of the handbrake lever/cables to the inside of the disc.

They can be dried off to some extent by (and for Gawdness sake do with NOBODY behind..!!) gently pulling up the handbrake lever whilst moving until you feel it binding slightly, and let friction/heat do the rest. Again, I would recommend you don't do it all the way up to Glasgow, but if you do, TspiritPete may be looking for a lift.....

Have your handbrake frictions ever been replaced....?
