Sat Nav (Tns510) Issues

I have recently bought an Avensis Tourer with a Sat Nav which seems to be a TNS 510 according to the lettering on the unit. It is the one with the large colour screen. There is a seperate manual supplied but it does not give detials of the name of the unit. The issues I have encountered are as follows:

1) The manual shows that you can enter a full UK postcode such as SW14 2AS to find an address but the unit always ceases input after the first cahracter of the second part of the postcode - so for example if you try to enter SW14 2AS it stops at SW14 2. In london this is not a huge issue as the area covered is relatively small. However in a rural area the area it highlights is huge and sometime two or three miles from where you need to be and on the wrong road. Full postcode entry is possible in cheaper - off the shelf products and enty of the full postcode takes several pages of the manual but I can't get it to work.

How do you enter the full postcode as detailed in the manual?

2) I have been unable to find a way to enable the voice activated dialling. The car manual says this can be used but the seperate Sat Nav manual makes no mention of the voice activated dialling although the voice activated dialling button reamins on the steering wheel so it is obviuosly mena to work

How do you active voice dialling?

3) In the old Avensis we had a small handsfree Samsung bluetooth device which cost £30 and whenever we got in the car the device sensesd the mobile phone and connected automatically. It was possible to have several phones connected at the same time with priority given to one phone selected by default. The bluetooth connection in the Avensis will recognise up to six devices but it appears you have to manually switch between the different devices. How to you set it up to automatically connect to more than one bluetooth device - this is primarily so the two drivers can get in the car and go rather than having ot spend time cahnging the phones over all the time.

How do you set the bluetooth up to automatically swap between the phones connected/

4) Radio reception is poor compared with the 2001 Avensis with crackles on the raio on all channels.

Is there a known cause ofr this

Many thanks for your assistance.

Are you entering the postcode in using the address option? if you are then this is normal, to use 7 digit postcode entry look near the top right of the display, there is a button that says 1/2, press it, go to screen 2 and there you will see UK Postcode as an option button for entering a destination

You can't, I have the same issue and am currently locked in a battle with the dealer and Toyota over it, I would appreciate you dropping me a PM if possible because I am glad I have found someone else with the issue. The TR used to have the Panasonic head unit without Navigation, that supported voice dialing, even though the brochure says the TNS510 supports it, and the manual says it does, unfortunately it DOES NOT. Toyota fitted old steering wheels with the newer TNS 510 head unit. New TR's now have the button blanked off for voice. Mine is even wired to illuminate, but there is no way to add voice activation to the TNS 510 (which is a big deal for me as my car is my office pretty much)

I am not sure on this one, I will test it in the morning with my wife's phone and let you know what happens. You could ask on the IQ forum as that car also has the TNS510 fitted

Must be your car, sorry, my radio reception is perfect. The antenna is built into the screen, has it been damaged when cleaning the inside?

Many thanks for your assistance.

Happy to help :)

Many thanks - postcode now sorted - dealer had given wrong info and said as it was european only 5 digits could be entered - ironically if you go to the spain map no postcode can be entered.

As for the phones - seems these are very poorly handled.

The radio appears to have been fixed by retuning all the channels - perhaps they were slightly out.
