hi folks have read all about problems with brakes on aygo want to check my own now.have removed positioning screw (handbrake off) still cant remove my rear brake drum or inspect brake shoes-all help welcome

Easy......

The drum is corroded in place.

Either it's rear surface or......more likely......

Where it is a tight fit on the hub.

After you have removed the securing screw, run a couple of drops of oil or WD40

onto where the drum sits on the hub then......

You will notice there are two small threaded holes on the face of the drum.

(From memory, about M6)

If you screw in two bolts or screws into these holes,

they will pull the drum off (or at least un-seize it).

Take it slow, a little on one side then a little on the other.

That's what the two small threaded holes are for.

M8. 13 mm key will do the job.

hope you have placed a 2nd jack or a big wood under the car....

ps...been long away, but now i'm back ! :)

hi, all !!

cheers !

Or the old solution:

1. Place fairly sturdy lump of wood against drum.

2. Hit with hammer

3. Move wood to new location and repeat.

Agree 100%

That's what I've always done.

Except......

MY Aygo drums are still shiny & I'm Mr. Pedantic!

When I look at those nice shiny drums on the picture above I'm starting to think about buying some Hammerite Smooth Black for my wife's Aygo. Her drums are still black'ish but there seems to be rust appearing in places :crybaby:

Front calipers need some silver Hammerite as well.

Thanks guys yesterday I removed my drums cleaned and painted with hammerite. It is an easy job. Just needed some fine sanding in the inside to remove rust.

Mord, you're not the only thinking that. I then realise I'm too f*ck off lazy and can't be that bothered to clean, prep. paint etc. :) Its a car, an Aygo at that - so I'll live with it ...
