Replacing The Control Dash Unit

2000 Toyota Rav4.

My fan controls have gone to hell and I need to replace the Control Dash Unit.

I got the faceplate off and loosened the 3 screws but I still can't get it out and I'm not sure I want to pry it out.

Is there something I am missing?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it as 15 below zero today. The fan still works, but only on lower speeds.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to the club

Are you sure it is the dash unit and not the linkages in the air mix box? Not familiar with your version but I have read more than one post on here where that was the problem.

Had to look up your domicile by the way - thought it was one of Big Kev's georaphicalisms

Sorry.........just read your post again. I'll shut up and let the experts advise :blushing:

Thanks for your reply. Yea, I'm out in the sticks in WI.

The control for the fan speed is broke, it moves too freely. I still have heat but it's a chore to keep the fan running. I found a Dash Unit for$60, but I'm not sure how this thing comes out. Like I said i got the screws out and it moves, but it seems stuck on something and I don't want to just pry it out as I still need heat, and don't want to risk busting it.

quoting Haynes

"On 2000 and earlier models, remove instrument cluster (remove screw at top then pull bezem with both hands to disengage bezel from instrument panel)

Then pull off the knobs from the heating/air-conditioning control panel. Remove the lower screws from the radie/stereo cover and using a taped up tip of a screwdriver carefully lever the lower portion of the bezel away from the instrument panel until the clips are released. Disconnect any electrical connections from the rear of the centre trim panel and remove it. To remove lower trim centre panel, lever out the four clips and remove. "

This sounds like what I did a few years ago when stripping out my 1994 RAvs dashboard. Before starting, for safety best to disconnect the -ve terminal from the Battery and allow the electrics to drain so the airbag system doesn't activate as you pull the dash apart.

Hope this helps
