Brake Sound "grinding"

Dear all,

had my front brake dics & pads replaced due to failed MOT (brake binding!). On the way home, heard sound like grinding. what could be the problem. please help. Is it dangerous?

i don't understand the noise you are referring to. brakes are more noisey at the start of their life (when they are bedding in) and towards the end of their life too. in the middle they will operate at near silence...

and if the brakes are operating with their same strength as they normally do then i would suggest it is not dangerous. obviously monitor the noise if it does get worse or brakes feel weak then pull over immediately!

many thanks. i mean it sound like pulsating. it comes on and off and apparent at low speed.

?? - you said on the way home from having new pads and discs fitted you heard the grinding - why didn't you go straight back to the garage who had just fitted them ??

You do not say how old your Avensis is, if you are talking about an Avensis in the Corolla forum ? - but if its a good age replacing just one caliper is perhaps not the best thing as they may deliver unequal pressure - again your garage should have checked for that on the rolling road.

A pulsating sound/ feeling on barking could be due to many causes, uneven or incorrectly fitted discs and even some problem with the ABS system .

Again to me everything says get it back to the garage who did the brakes, something is not right - you paid them to do a proper job and that should include a road test if major brake work has been done.

Hi, many thks for feedback. Sorry for posting in he wrong column..newbie! I own avensis verso 2002, just bought couple of mths ago. anyway brought back to garage, only being advised to go on driving with driving to allow bedding in the new brake. to bring back if things become worst.
