i have an auris 2ltr diesel it was out of warrantly in september and it is year 2007. i am now concerned about my familys safety in this car i am wondering if anyone has had similar problems. my steering electrics failed end of last year and the steering failed and you could not move the wheel. then the the power went from the excellerator leaving me in the middle of the road. then today i was in the city centre when the bar at the back of my steering collum broke which was dangerous.in the morning s also its the noisiest car ever and the silver has come of around the gear knob can anyone relate to this.

Which are you most concerned about - the steering issue or the finish on the gearknob deteriorating? I think one would expect some change in the finish on the gearknob given three years of use.

"the bar at the back of my steering collum broke"

Not sure what you mean by that... can you post a picture ? Have you asked a main dealer ? If something broke on the column then I'm guessing it's not something that you could just fix yourself and continue so what has happened.
