Bull Bar

Has anyone had experience of fitting an stainless steel bull bar to mk3 rav?

I think you will find that they are now illegal...

What the situation is with regard to those already fitted I don't know, but certainly it is illegal to retrofit them or to produce a vehicle that has them as standard...

Sorry mate, you will have to go without.

Frontal protection systems are not illegal, however they are required to meet a EC directive (2005/66/EC),

The old style bull bars which rap around the front of a vehicle covering the lights etc will not meet the standard therefore illegal.

There are serval aftermarket bull bars on the Market that meet the EC directive (2005/66/EC),

AFAIK energy absorbing are allowed, but metal are out.

You'd be nuts to run stainless steel bull bars on public roads - there aren't too many bulls running about, but plenty of kids.

I just run the kids over without a bull bar. If they are wearing a hoodie they even polish the bonnet on the way off it.

Before anyone accuses me of being ageist, I don't mind who bounces off the bonnet - however old they are.

Spot on as usual, David....I was stupid enough to call my official Toyota wee nudgey bar thing a "bull bar" last year whilst in conversation with a well known Insurance Company re insuring my car.

At the very mention of the expression "bull bar", I was suddenly persona non grata, and conversation/proposed insurance totally cancelled. Tread wary....these E.U directives have a habit of being written by Pontius Pilate's wee brother....

Big Kev

Well holy sh*t a bricks, the pictures in the link show the bull bar on my Rav is a banned one. It was put on though years and years ago and by the previous owner.

I could post up the photo I had of the number 1 RAV with the wrap around bull bar and 6 big Cibies mounted thereon...... The bar had to come off only cos its had corroded from the inside of the tube and was in danger of losing the Cibie lamps! It was an original bar supplied by Toyota and fitted at new. Unfortunately I couldn't find anyone around that could manufacture a new bar with the same tight bends so haven't replaced the bar...

I found the bar and lights a fantastic help - with the lights on people couldn't see if I wis polis or not - blinding. They also helped to light up EVERYTHING.

The bar kept the front bumper fairly intact when parked in the carparks of supermarkets...

as for hurting pedestrians - if they are daft enough to step in front then they must rely on my brakes and whether I am chomping intae a burger at the time. That way they'll be fine but if I'm eating chips and curry I'd hate to have to stop quickly!

(I have 4 kids and now advise people with kids on how to get rid of them  The cost outweighs the advantages.)
