My partner and I went to Bremen (Germany) from London on our IQ2 auto.

Once we have crossed the channel on the ferry, we have topped it up with 25 litters of Super unleaded 99 at one of the Rotterdam's Shell stations.

Then I have tried my best to drive at 55-60 M/hr for 250 miles for 5 hours with one stop in the middle.

The result was really blowed my mind!

74.7 mpg on the clock!!! Awesome!!!

Even after testing this baby at 95 M/hr for 10 min, my total mpg just only dropped to 70.7

This car is amazing - every German and Dutch were looking at us like some sort of beautiful alien!!! I have only managed to find 1 of IQ's, so here you can really show off non stop. :toast:

After 1 and 1/2 years I'm still loving my car and won't be selling it ever!

Filled up with super unleaded and from London to York, I got 46 MPG

I regularly drive from Bishop Auckland to Carlisle, via the A66 and M6 (about 70 miles). Running the car at 60-70mph the whole way on 95 RON, I would get around 55-60mpg. If I drive really economically and keep my speed to about 50-60mph the whole way on 95 RON, I'll get around 60-65mpg. If I do the same 50-60mph with Sainsbury's Super Unleaded I get 70+mpg quite easily. I haven't tried "driving normally" with Super Unleaded yet, but at a guess I'd probably get around 60-65mpg.

The part of the A66 I use is very hilly, due to the fact it goes straight over the Pennines. That means plenty of down-shifting to 4th and sometimes 3rd gear. Naturally, cruising at 50 in 4th up a steep hill is much easier on the engine than pushing 70 in 3rd... Not a kind road for small petrol engines, but the iQ still does okay.

My iQ is a base model 1.0 with the 5 speed manual gearbox. It definitely prefers the Super Unleaded and I might give Tesco's 99 RON stuff a go at some point as I've heard Sainsbury's Super is 97 RON. Super doesn't seem to affect performance at all, but I'm not surprised really as the iQ isn't exactly a racing car.

P.S. 70 mph in 3rd gear is around 5000 rpm. And I'm sure on one occasion, the gear shift indicator asked me to shift down into 2nd while I was cruising at just under 60mph... Seems a little mad to me.

2nd gear will go to nearly an indicated 70 no probs. 5000rpm is peak torque on these little engines so should be able to do that all day long. Doing 50 up a steep hill in 4th will be lugging the engine alot more than say 70 in 3rd (if it will pull it as the hill is that steep..)

Are all these figures from the trip computer or from brim to brim tanks ?

Just from the trip computer, which I know isn't entirely accurate but I don't do the whole spreadsheet thing.

2nd might do 70 if pushed into the red, but I'd rather not do that with mine...

50 in 4th gear is actually fine for most hills on the A66 in ideal conditions. The ecoshift rarely tells me to use 3rd when travelling at 50.

Did a bit of "normal driving" recently over the same route with aprox. 50/50 mix of Sainsburys Super Unleaded and Tesco's Momentum 99. Again, using the trip computer, it reported around 68mpg. This was with ideal road and weather conditions, a passenger, plus quite a bit of luggage. On the way back, it had dropped to around 65mpg, as the wind was fairly strong (No passenger or luggage this time).

Price wise, Sainsburys Super Unleaded 97 is 3p more per litre than regular 95, and Tesco's Momentum 99 is 3p more per litre than that. Whatever I choose to use it's still cheaper than diesel, which is what my last car was. And that was terrible on fuel, regardless of how I drove it. My uncle has the same car and he too doesn't like the fuel consumption and he does do the whole spreadsheet thing.

OK done all my fuel comparisons with a fully run in 'Euro 5', 1.0 iQ Multi drive.

*plan on stopping bothering to check,

but know i never will!, habit of a driving career*

Tank refills with at least 2 tank fills of each fuel before using another one..

Not trusting or going strictly by the fuel gauge, mileometer or computer,

but these all tally with the miles i do on the same trips week in week out with other vehicles.

(so in my opinion & experience the milometer is accurate for the tyres fitted)

i know the miles i drive to everyplace

& every petrol station off by heart.

I only fill up at the cheapest,

big variation across Scotland & North of England.

I know the fuel consumption of everything i have ever driven regularly since 1976. (boring i know.)

http://www.petrolprices.com

I get an Email every day with my local fuel price.

What i have been paying for the past 6 weeks or so.

£1.35.9 Tesco Momentum, 'I have Tesco Clubcard Plus & get Double points.'

£1.31.9 Tesco 95 Ron

£1.32.9 Sainsbury Super Unleaded

£1.30.9 Sainsbury 95 RON

£1.32.9 Asda 95 Ron, 'I have a ASDA Credit Card so get 1 pence a litre off.'

£1.35.9 Shell V power

£1.32.9 Shell Fuel Saver.

£1.32.9 Jet.

The car never does less than 46 miles per gallon now, no matter how hard driven,

even just used around a small town for a few days.

Best consumption driven on long runs without giving thought to economy is around 55 mpg,

worst 50mpg.

best sensible driving is 60 miles to the gallon for a tank fill full to full.

Have driven for over 100 miles twice now very very sensible,

filled up, did the 110 miles & fill up again & used 7 litres, = better than 70mpg

Most economic for me is Sainsbury Super Unleaded, Price to Mileage,

*BUT need to go out of my way to get it*

So long story short,

the slightly more expensive 'Shell Fuel Saver' gives good milage & is my choice when buying at a cheap station.

Sainsbury 95 Ron is cheap & good enough.

'Its all only petrol after all.'

Jesus you have cheap fuel, I just put in some BP ultimate at my local and it was £1.44 and this is a normal price round here. Normal unleaded for me is 1.35 and I use petrol prices as well.

On a side note my last tank on my superbike (zx10R) returned 55mpg doing brim to brim, that was with a passenger and using the throttle a little. Thats from a machine that will do 0-150 in 10 seconds.....

did 58 mpg on Shell fuelsave (standard?) today. very happy :)

BP tends to be expensive. The garage I pass on the A66 is usually 137.9 for petrol and 139.9 for diesel. In comparison, both Sainsbury's and Tesco's 95 RON is 128.9, and diesel has been sitting at 134.9.

Been using some of Tesco's Momentum 99 recently and the mpg reading from the computer seems worse than what I was getting with Sainsbury's Super. Interestingly, the engine sounds somewhat different, especially under load.

I think I'll have a go at working out mpg properly for a while and see what difference I get.

Brim to Brim or on the trip computer. If brimming then thats superb I recently did a 195 mile round trip with a roads, b roads and motorway, speed between 60 & 80 most of the time. Trip computer reported 57.8 actual mpg was 67.6 doing brim to brim as I always do, on normal unleaded as well.
