Hello,

This is my first time on here so here goes!

When I drive my Avensis the front end shakes like the wheels are not balanced (60 to 75mph, if i ease off it will stop. I changed the front pads as the O/S had worn,I pushed the piston calipers back in and they seemed to go in ok so dont think it is a seized caliper and braking is smooth. if anyone has a clue please help

Thanks

I Havnt, but the judder goes when i go over 75mph or slow down. I will get the wheels balanced ASAP and see if that is it

Hi Daz

I can assure you with 99.9% certainty that its your front wheels that need balancing. If mine are out by even 5 grammes, i get the 68mph steering wheel judder. If they are out by 20 grammes, the shaking can be quite violent at 68mph.

I have in the past stood over the tyre technicians, who when its within 5g try to take the wheel off the balancing machine saying "you wont notice it mate". To this I tell them either continue until its zero, or I wont pay. Most are understanding when you explian why, but if they get funny walk away.

For some reason the Avensis is very sensitive, with cheaper tyres that unbalance quicker what you save in initial cost, you pay for in increased balancing costs and steering rack wear.

Interestingly I have just replaced my O/S caliper as it had started to bind, but N/S is OK - weird eh?.

Let us know how you get on

(Oh and avoid Headley tyres near Basingstoke - cheap tyres but cant balance to save their lives)

Cheers

Buzby

Well I have had the Wheels balanced and it hasnt made any differance!

So my next thought is the discs or calipers?

Option 1 I can change the discs, I would of thought I would of got a vibration when braking if they were warped or damaged?

option 2 is change the OS Caliper, the sliders are moving freely and when i changed pads the pistons seemed to go in easier enough.

If anyone has any answers or ideas please reply.

Thanks for your help

Could also be the tyre itself. I presume you have checked them thoroughly for even wear and no odd bulges etc
