Just a quick question to guys/girl who have cleaned there EGR valve on there car...

My thinking was to buy a spare EGR so that when I cleaned the one on my car I'd have another one all ready to go back on, and then just keep rotating the valves to save down time on my car.

When I cleaned the old valve and replaced it with a brand new one and pipe (bought if off eBay for £130 all in) I didn't take off the 3 bolts to remove the electric motor from the valve when I sprayed carb cleaner in it.

Does anyone know how I could test to see if the valve is working without bolting it back to the car? I was very careful to make sure that when I sprayed the cleaner in the valve that I held the electric motor part upper most, and so that the valve was pointing downwards. :crybaby:

I think it was one of those days where I wasn't quite thinking about what I was doing! But by that time I'd already sprayed the valve with the cleaner!

:meet: Anyone have any ideas?

Hi mate, as you now know it's not a big job so the EGR shouldn't need doing for at least 20,000 miles ... is it really worth having a spare one?.

If you are good with auto electrics or know some one who is it is possible to test the old valve but why did you take it off in the first place because it was blocked or was it faulty, how about just using the old (cleaned up) body of the EGR if the motor was faulty?

Regards Pete..

Hi Pete, thanks for the replie

The Mpg was starting to go down a bit, so I thought I'd give it a clean. But then when I saw how much the valve and the pipe was from Mr T (Almost £300) and that you could buy a brand new genuine one off Fleabay for £130 for valve and pipe (including delivery) I thought that it might be an idea to have a spare if this one gave up the Ghost.

But then, my thinking was why not just change the valve to the new one and clean the other so I had one to just pop straight back on. Just me liking to have a spare as a just in case

I dont know anyone who could test it for me. I'll just have to wait untill the next time I clean the valve an see if I've bugg**ed this one up!

But a very good idea about using the new motor with the valve. Nice one :toast:

My guess is that as long as it was dry when you reconnected it then it should be ok. If it was still wet when the elcetricity arrived, well, fizz-pop-smoke and off to eBay again. FIngers crossed eh?

Yer new valve on and old one off. So I'm hoping that when the cleaned (old EGR) is put back on next time I dont get a electric shock and all my hair falls out! Oh forgot, that wont happen anymore as I've got none anyway! :afro::no:
