Hi All

I need to replace the n/s headlight bulb on my 2ltr T spirit Avensis petrol(53 plate)as I noticed it wasn't working last night.I have been informed that they are a pain to do and i can't just nip to Halfords and buy a replacement. Is this person talking rubbish or is there an element of truth in this ( I've heard of the megane debarcle so know that headlamp bulb replacement isn't always straightforward). Advice much appreciated ...many thanks.

The nearside bulb is easy to replace. Remove the plastic covers over radiator etc. Loosen the Battery clamp and without disconnecting the Battery lift it up and move it inboard towards the engine. This will give room to get your hand to the lamp. Turn the grey cover anti clockwise 1/4 of a turn and remove it. With a flat headed screwdriver lever off the connector. Remove the spring clip holding the bulb by pressing it down and out and lift out the bulb. Replacement is a reverse of this. Do not touch the new bulb glass with your bare fingers. Align the marks on the grey cover and turn it clockwise. Re-fit the Battery and covers. If you have trouble handling the bulb use long nosed pliers.

In other words, Al, this is where your degree in gynaecology comes in !!!!

It's an utter PINTA (Pain In The Armpits) of a job, but not insurmountificating if patient.

Most importantly, make sure you re-lock the back plastic/rubber cover, or condensation will occur, along with MOT failure.

Then your quandary will be : do I have faulty Toyota headlights, or did I make a mess of replacing covers...?

Good Luck,

Big Kev

if you buy the bulb in Halfords they will fit it for £5 which may be worth it.

If you haven't already upgraded the bulbs from the poor oem fit ones this would also be an opportunity to do this.

oh, & my dealer at least is currently offering free bulb fitting if you buy the bulb from them - this would probably be the cheapest but then you are back with the crappy oem bulb.
