Stabiliser Link Bushes

Hi,

Took my baby for a service the other week and came out £500 lighter

my own fault as i hadn't done it for a few years and i have learnt my lesson.

Anyway they i had new brake discs pads, filters, all sorted.

But they told me I need Stabiliser link bushes aswell.

They quoted me £145.

I am honest i dont know a great deal about motors but if someone can tell me if its worth tackling myself il have a go.

Also my Dad knows plenty but its just having the time to look.

Also is there any user manual for the car? like a Haynes, as i know Haynes dont do one, please correct me if wrong.

Thanks.

Its a 2001 Yaris T Sport as in the avatar.

Yes Haynes do a manual. Does not cover the T Sport - although many operations are the same on all models..

Genuine Toyota bushes ?

Fitting on non T Sport models is easy.. don't know about T Sport.

There are - or were - some very cheap bushes around. Some are good, some not very..

£145 to fit when parts cost £65 seems an eminently sensible dealer price.. (But I did my own for parts cost £25)...

Are the bushes actually shot or just 'perishing'?

Yaris bushes appear to perish really fast for some reason, but it is just the bits on the outside; The bush itself is usually fine and they don't actually fail for ages :)

I had mine done when my Yaris had its first service as they'd said it was perishing, but the next year they said the same thing!!

They nearly always look perished but you don't need to change them until they start knocking.

Yer i've heard alot about this people saying until it starts knocking they are fine, they just want another £150 off me.

I'll get my Dad to take it for a spin, see if he can hear anything.

The guy at the dealership said it didnt need doing just yet, he said around 3k miles till it needs doing.
