Service Plan - 3 Year Costs

Thanks for all the advice on here - I have learnt a lot and it has helped to convince me to change to a Gen2 Prius and reduce fuel costs.

Just wonder what you think about a service plan I have been quoted - this is to cover the next three services (it should be freshly serviced when I pick it up on Saturday) for a total of £473 which I can pay interest free monthly. Does this sound reasonable to cover three services ? I am well aware that really this can only be serviced properly at Mr T.

My only thoughts are that I am not sure that I want to tie into three years although it can be transferred. Maybe I can convince Mrs D that it is worth the expense to go a Gen 3 !

Thanks in advance

Peter

I paid £660 for services 2 to 5 with the cost spread over 3yrs at 0% interest. Average about £160 per service sounded good to me after what I was paying for my Saab. You are paying in advance but with interest rates so low at present it doesn't make much difference whether the money is in my bank or their's.

Your cost of £473 is around the same price I paid a couple of months ago for 3 years. It has to be a fair deal if only because I've never heard of a service cost getting cheaper year by year.

I'd guess you're saving about £25 on the price of 1 major (around £250) 2 standard (£125) and services at today's prices, so if you don't want to tie in for 3 years, pay as you go.

BTW, you can have the Prius serviced anywhere you like, if you wish, there are no servicable items on the HSD system so its just like any other car to service. The biggest problem is that other garages may not be familiar with the starting procedure of the car. There are stories, across the pond, of the car being left in ready mode whilst the oil is changed and the engine starting up with no oil in when it senses a drop in engine temperature.

If I keep the car for a long time, I intend to do my own servicing when the warranty runs out. But if something technically new and spectacular comes out I may trade it.

Well I was gonna ask a query on this following my 40k mile service.

Maybe Parts King would know best but do they hook the hybrid system or the HV Battery upto a computer or Battery balancer or similar when the car is getting serviced? Only ask as my car runs much better following the service (maybe the new filters etc) BUT the HV Battery seems much happier too. It seems to hold a longer and more balanced charge since the service. Hard to describe but spending 10 hours a day in the motor I get a feel for its workings and the HV battery just seems to work 'better' than before the service.

It could be a coincidence orhas it been recalibrated or balanced at service?

But did you also notice the indicated average mpg had gone down when you picked it up, due to them running it up to temperature to change the oil then giving it a blast of a test drive after, all of which would charge up the HV battery.

My HV battery seems to be holding its charge better now, after 4k miles, than it did when I got it and it's always charged by more bars in this cold weather due to the engine running more than it was in the summer.
