Ipod Aux In?

Hello am looking for some advice...

I have just bought a new 2011 Avensis TR with the integrated sat nav/audio system.

The system has an aux in slot located in the front of the stereo/sat nav head unit on the dash but this means that to connect an ipod, you have to have 50cm of cable floating around the gearstick/dash which looks a complete mess and gets in the way.

I am sure I had a similar model of Avensis on hire a few months ago (without sat nav) and the aux in slot was tucked away nicely in the central console beneath the cup- holder etc. It appears to have been blanked off in the model I have just bought? Can I just ask my dealer to connect an extra aux in jack here?

What is the best/tidiest audio solution? I hardly ever listen to the radio and need something that charges the ipod and offers connectivity etc but everything I have read about the toyota ipod dock etc is negative.

Help please...

The Toyota iPod cables for the TNS510 (the unit you have) work P E R F E C T L Y, it's the premium system as fitted to the T4 / T-Spirit that has the dreadful iPod controller. With the official kit for the TNS 510 you have direct ipod control, it charges the iPod to. I fitted the 2 cables to my car, bought from Parts King / Lindop bros Toyota and fitted them myself, cost is around £90, but that's the cost of a Dension / DICE / Connects2 anyway so I was happy with it.

It puts the iPod socket in the glove box near the 12V socket (the blanking plate you have).

If you do a quick search I posted about the TNS510 a few days ago for someone else and put the part numbers in for the cables.

All the bad press you are picking up on is due to the Premium System's iPod kit costing a fortune, and then only giving you a solution where the iPod is being masqueraded as a CD Changer, very very poor in this day and age (I speak from experience having had the premium system complete with iPod kit in my Prius)

Cheers

Tony
