Automatic Choke

Hi' I drive a 2003 1.8 avensis, I only got the car ten days ago and have noticed the choke seems to stay on for quite a longtime , ie up to 5/7 mins, any other car I have had the choke goes of much quicker, and I have had 3 previous toyotas, could this be a sticky choke or maybe a faulty sensor,any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated many thanks

Hi mate,

does the water temp guage show the normal midway position whilst the "choke" is still on? The thermostat maybe faulty if the car is not warming up quickly, the petrol engine should warm up quickly where as the diesel takes a lot longer.

If the temp guage is showing normal and the fuel enrichment is still operating, ie. the revs still high at tickover, a sensor could be faulty.
