Problem With Touchscreen In My Prius

Can anyone help me. I have a late 2003 Prius and the touchsreen in the consol is displaying a message that says "check AC Unit". The display seems to be fine, in terms of the pixels etc, but more of a loose connection or something. It works periodically, but at times, just wont come on or just displays messages. The AC works fine, everything that you can control from other controls on the car work fine, so I don't believe it's issues with say the AC unit itself.

I took it to a dealer and they suggested replacing the unit which is about two grand or it might be another unit which is attached to this unit, which is 500 quid. The car, because of its age isn't even worth spending that kind of money on, so I'm hoping it might be a simple issue. Has anyone heard of this before or have any suggestions where I can get a replacement display with out paying two grand?

Regards

Jamie

First of all, Welcome to TOC

I am sorry, i can't help with your problem, but I suspect you may well have the oldest Prius on this forum!

I think we would all like to have some of your thoughts on the reliability, problems - if any - and general comments on the car after nearly 8 years of ownership!

Is it one of the originals? Or a very early gen2?
