I Thought The Yaris Held Its Value?

Hi everyone,

I bought a used yaris 1.0L TR privately a year ago. It is a 59 plate and I thought I paid a decent price of £6500 when it was 7 months old. Anyway the car is now 18 months old and it has 30,000 miles on it as I do lots of miles a year. I recently looked at a new yaris t spirit d4d diesel and the dealer would do a 3dr in white for £12,200 which i thought was good, minus my px. Anyway, messing about on the net I thought i would look on glasses guide and see how much a year old d4d t spirit with 20,000 miles is worth, just to see how much mine would be worth in a years time. Jesus! it said £7,000 trade in price! thats over £5,000 in one year! I thought the yaris held its value!

Anyway it has really put me off changing, just for more torque and pulling power it is not worth it as my little yaris 1.0L is fantastic on fuel.

Any comments?

Personally I can't see much point in getting a few more mpg from the oil burner with all the extra technology it needs to make it's performance on par with the petrol model, especially on a small car like the Yaris. My 04 1.3 does over 50mpg at 70 on the motorway. YMMV.

Well I know the Mk1 5-door D4Ds are holding their value annoyingly well :(

I will say I found the Mk1 D4D a lot more fun to drive than the 1.0, and assume the Mk2 is similar (Although I've heard mixed opinions about the 6-speed gearbox) but if you're only getting it to save money and don't do much motorway driving then don't bother as it'll take forever to recoup the cost.

The economy is great (I've yet to drop below 55mpg even during purely urban diving and average low-mid 60's :yahoo: ) and having so much torque in such a light car is great fun, but the extra cost offsets the savings.

You'd just get a higher performance and slightly better equipped version of the car.

You're getting more at trade-in than you paid for it but you aren't happy? Did you really think you were saving 5k when you paid £6500 for it?
