Hi there,

big thankyou to whoever runs this forum :) I know what it takes as I run one myself for Westfield XTR2/XTR4 owners (all be it with a lot less users than u guys).

Basically I am going to view an ae86 GT Coupe on saturday. I know very little about this cars but I want it mainly for fun and some drift racing. The spec of the car is as follows:

1984 A reg in white/black,MOT-dec04 TAX-end june.

ENGINE-4AGE,Washable air filter, polished induction pipe, splitfire plugs,4-branch manifold+Janspeed centre section with stainless back box, radiator re-core,lightened crank pulley+fan,MicroDynamics adjustable rev limiter with full throttle gear change,Castrol GTX Magnatec oil.

CHASSIS-Lowered,Koni adjustable shox,Whiteline h/duty f+r anti-roll bars, adjustable Panhard rod all with pollybushes,40mm roll centre adjusters,drilled-grooved front disks, braided brake lines,2 spare front calipers, set of 5 polished 14"Supra wheels on brand new Fulda Attiro rubber, some spare deep dish drift wheels.

INTERIOR-standard complete,Trust aluminium gear knob,5"Tacho rev-counter with shift light,INDIGLO BLUE volt/vacume guages,mountney s/wheel.

EXTERIOR-Full re-spray last nov,black bonnet,phase2 sideskirts,some stickers etc.

Questions....

any tell tail signs of a dead or dying 4AGE engine ???

any bad areas on the Shell ?

are the spares still quite easy to get hold of ? I've heard things like alternators can be a pain.

basically anything that you think I should look out for.

There are currently only 3 cars I am aware of for sale in the uk at the moment - If anyone knows of any more please let me know. I appreciate these cars are rare and fully expect that to be reflected in the price I have to pay to own one.

Kind Regards

Ian.

Just look for rust EVERYWHERE! they oxidise at the sight of a puddle :D

seriously though, check around the sunroof, front screen, tailgate (and mountings), wheelarches, sills and front wings.

check for general abuse, as it sounds like it's been ragged, what with all the add ons. engines are pretty bullet proof...if they've been looked after.

that's all i can help you with really (the only other specific probs i know are on the AE82). try posting a topic in classic toyota - there's a few irish lads who post fairly regularly in there with AE86's.

BTW, there's a sliver one on eBay atm

Cheers JT,

yeah - I've seen the silver one...and there is a red one too - reserves set at 3000 and 2000 respectively.

Will try the classics forum

It sure looks good! I agree check everywhere for rust. I'd also do a compression test as well just to be sure.
