Touch Up Paint - But What Colour Is My Prius?

Hi everyone,

I wonder if someone can assist me with what sounds like a pretty daft question! I've just bought a 2005 Prius T-Spirit which I'm really pleased with. It has a couple of stone chips/marks so I thought I'd get some touch up paint and tidy it up - but I'm struggling to work out exactly what colour my car is! It's red - and I think it's probably Salsa Red but there's a very similar colour which comes up when looking on line and that's Barcelona Red. I've tried (unsuccessfully) to find a colour code somewhere on the car so I'm somewhat stumped! Also, once I figure out the colour, would I be better off getting hold of the official stuff from Toyota rather than an unofficial supplier of touch up paints?

Many thanks for your assistance.

Thanks

Pete

imo and experience..Toyota dealer is best option to obtain matching colour......the code is usually in number and letter form on the car sills......Have tried Halfords mix colours in the past but didn't get the exact match......

The colour code is held in the vin nimber. Take the vin to your local Mr T and all will be revealed

Hi wattsy,

the answer to your question is a simple one.

find the chassis/vin plate (usually found on the n/s door pillar)

locate the vin (starts JT)

now look at either the bottom left corner or the top left corner and you should see 3 digit code preceded by col/trm.

a toyota colour code for a red starts with a 3 so you are looking for some like - 3E5 or similar.

good luck finding it, i would recommend buying it from the toyota network as there colours are usually the best match.

BUT BE WARNED ALL NEW PAINT is now in the form of a water based formula so make sure you REALLY shake it up and be careful about the temperature when you are doing it.
