Keyless Entry

Hi

I use to have a vehicle with keyless entry. If you unlocked the doors but didn't open any of them, it would re lock & alarm itself. Does the keyless entry on iQ work in the same way.

Dont know, but I had a car that did the same so I know EXACTLY what you mean. Yours was not a VX Astra was it?

I have just unlocked my car so standby for the results in a few minutes...

No it was a Toyota Hilux import. Any news on the unlocking and locking. And what about closing the windows if you have left them open.

I think it works the way you are used to, i.e If the car is locked and you unlock it but don't open the doors, it will lock itself again after 30 seconds.

Both my 1996 and 2003 Lexus did this. If you remotely unlocked the car and then didn't open a door, it would re-arm and lock itself after 30 seconds.

I haven't purposely been in this situation with the iQ, but just tried it, touched handle to unlock it but didn't open the door, and it locked itself after 30 seconds.

Brilliant. I really like that feature.

BTW

From memory (too cold to try) continual pressing of the keyfob key does not open or close the windows. Just remember before leaving the car !

RGds

PS Another thing I mean to try is the range of keyless entry, No good sitting a roadside cafe, coffeee in hand, keys in pocket and seeing your IQ drive off !

Thanks for that. Yes the worrying thing with this keyless entry is that I suppose you can start the car at any time if the door is open, or do you have to start the car within a certain time?

The range on my Prius os about 2 feet, so unless its a very small cafe the problem wouldnt arise :yahoo:

dont start the engine and then walk off and leave it thinking the engine will cut out when out of range, it doesn't. the range appears to be basically right next to the doors . if you leave the fob in the motor and get out, it screams at you. i think i remember trying to lock it with the fob in the motor , it wouldn't. i went through a period of locking the doors with the sensors on the handle , then trying it and it kept unlocking , took me ages to trust it, in the meantime i locked it using the rear door lock, gave me more peace of mind. and after all that you can still use the remote to lock, unlock it.After 5 months i'm just about there with it.

It is pretty intuitive really, if you dont think about it too much and just use the system, it works perfectly. (In my experience anyway,.... stands back awaiting influx of exceptions to this rule!)

no, you're absolutely spot on. open door, exit, close door , touch handle twice, lights flash twice , walk away rapidly think of anything except if your cars locked (it is!)

to test if your doors are locked, yes you can try rear door handle, but on my auris instead of putting my hand around door handle,i put my fingers on top and bottom of the handle and pull to check if it is locked, this method does not unlock the car.you have to be close to the car for the fob to operate.but the buttons on the fob will operate the locks from a surprising distance away and through things like walls etc.

a couple of times when i first had the car i got out and left tthe engine running cos there is no key to remove as the engine is so quiet.

I have played about with the smart entry system and this is what I have found.

1. You can leave the key in your pocket all the time.

2. Walk up to the car and grab the handle and it unlocks.

3. Leave the car and close the door and rub your finger over the rear of the door handle and it locks.

4. Press the rear tail gate button that says lock. The doors will lock and unlock.

5. Press the remote to unlock and don't open the door. The doors will self lock after about 30 seconds.
