Side Light Upgrade/misty Foglights

Greetings Everyone

I have been planning on upgading my front sidelights and bootlight with some LED's.

Does anyone know of any problems using these? On sites like Autobulbs they go on about sidelight bulb warnings and Canbus systems?

Can anyone advise me.

Also I have noticed the inside of the glass on my front foglights have misted up on occasions leaving a coating when dry.Can they be cleaned or is it best to try and replace them under warranty.

Regards and Thanks

Alan

I run leds on one of my RAVs for the front sidelights. No problem at all. The LEDs take less current so might show up as a fault if yer more sensitive systems pick up a current variation ??

On the foglights, my first guess would be they are being penetrated by moisture/vapour from the road - are these sealed units (doubt it) or can they be accessed from behind to enable cleaning?

Cars fitted with bulb warning systems can throw their dummy out of the pram when LED's are fitted as the current flow will be altered. To get round this problem you can buy LED's with built in resistors to compensate - and guess what they even use more current and usually give out less light than standard filament bulbs. Any so-called energy saving from fitting LED' to a motor vehicle is negligible in fuel terms.

Most people tend to get caught up in wattage when it comes to bulbs and lighting yet wattage has nothing whatsover to do with light output. Light output and efficacy is measured in Lumins and temperature. So when buying any type of bulb ask the seller to specify the Lumin output and temperature of their bulbs. I have asked numerous suppliers this question and have always been met with stoney silence.:)

I was looking to pop some LEDs in my side lights on my 4.3 - that was until I looked at their position! How on earth do you get the bulb out / in? There must be an easy way???

Hi Tom

On XTR the front sidelight bulbs are easy to get at once you remove the black plastic cover which covers both headlights and radiator(Don't know if T180 is the same) It's held in place by about 10 round clips which you release by pressing down the centre pin until clip becomes loose(Press centre pin down about 3mm lightly with a small screwdiver)Remove all clips before you remove cover or you might find one dropping into engine bay never to be seen again.Once cover is removed press the small metal clip on rear of bulb to remove cable then turn bulb holder about 90 degrees (Dont force it) to remove it from sidelight body.To refit its just a reverse procedure(Prepare the round clips for refitting by pushing centre pins back into the clip until it sticks out above clip body aprox 5mm)Drop clip back into each hole once cover is in place and the push pin down flush to clip body to secure in place.

Hope this helps
