Did anyone order his Yaris with this optional equipment? I haven't seen any Yaris until now with rear brake discs as they go fitted as a requirement for VSC.

Any opinion on this from current users, comments, experience? I was considering it while ordering my Yaris back in 2009 and still am puzzled if I should have gone for those.

I have it, unless you're driving at speed you shouldn't be it isn't necessary. The only time mine has come on was when I hit a patch of mud outside a farm and during the snow at Christmas, snow driving is hard with VSC and you can't switch it off.

Is its task to distribute evenly the brake force on slipping wheels, or does it more than that?

The idea is to apply braking to individual wheels to help prevent skidding etc. It does also include traction control which is usually what will cause an issue with driving in snow as it can cut power too much. Most manufacturers use ESP as the term and all new cars will soon have to have it fitted as standard under EU law. Couple of videos to show what it does:

There's loads of stuff on this on the net. Its mandatory in many Euro countries because it really does save lives.

Its going to be mandatory soon across the whole EU, but it isn't yet in the UK....

Tried to order it on my Yaris, but it was factory order only and they were offering £2500 off "stock" cars at the time so it really was a no brainer for us to buy the stock car, but if it was an option that was "available" I'd not hesitate...

I went on an Alfa day once when they made you throw a car around some cones too quick to lose control and to feel the VSC kick in to bring the car back under control. it was really somehting spooky.

And it would only cost extra £400 (£11p/m extra on 3 years plan service) to the total price while ordering my Toyota.. oh well. What's done it's done
