It will be DB at the point of contact on the road, and not from inside the car, quieter on the road = quieter in the cabin... unless your wheel bearing is duff ;)

How are they measureing the noise level? Surely each vehicle will be different

doubt if they would be tested on a vehicle.most likly a test rig of some sort.the test will have to a certain standerd

so that the correct comparison is made.

Its a good idea if you have a car with poor sound proofing and notice tyre noise.

I wouldn't pick a tyre solely on this indication, but it could help me pick between some decent tyres if they have equally good reviews and are similarly priced.

Michelin already sell what they market as the quietest tyre available... will be interesting to see how the assessors see it :P

autoexpress in their tyre reviews, test for tyre noise as well other issues on a wide range of tyres.
