My battery needs replacing and looking at Halfords a 74A one is £93!

Can I buy any 12v car battery at 74A or do they come in different shapes?

Also, where do you folks get your batteries from at a reasonable price?

any firm selling batteries will have a cataloque for each make they sell, giving one that is correct size and amp hour for your car.suppose you could get one of good quality on eBay,but due to weight the postage cost would be high.

I think that you'll find that what car has done a suoer test on different batteries. Worth taking a look to find out what make came out the best. And then you coul contact the manufacturer to find out the bst deals on line for it...

Over the years I have found the Varta brand hard to beat and they are available with up to a 5-year warranty. Diesels need a good beefey Battery so go for the highest amp/hour rating that will fit.

Whilst and under par Battery may still start an engine the starter motor has to work that much harder and probably more often. A few extra quid spent on the Battery therefore leads to better reliability and less wear and tear on engine ancillaries.:)

Make sure you get a good warranty. Don't rule Toyota dealers out either... ask :)

And yes they come in all different physical shapes so get the correct one. The capacity itself isn't of prime importance 60AH/70AH matters little. What is important is the cold start capability or CCA (cold cranking ability). Look on your original one to see what it says.

I got mine from Toyota for £175 supply and fit. Wouldn't normally but was going away for a few days and ended up in a hire car while Toyota sorted mine. Was gutted at how much it cost until....I got 2 more batteries under warranty when the dodgy starter motor killed the Battery on the car. I guess sometimes luck takes a funny form.
