New Sound System.

I've just fitted a new sound system in the old Avensis.

I went for a Clarion Double Din headunit, fits nicely, although there is a slight gap as the trim wasn't a perfect match, but it certainly looks OEM, thanks to the matt black finish and slider design... The quality is excellent, the control are big and easy to use and the unit changes colours so you can match the OEM lighting, the illumination/dimmer also works perfectly, so when I turn the lights on it dims or when off glows green with the rest of the instruments.

I found the seats are a little too low to mount an amplifer without having to cut out carpet insulation or remove air flow channels. My Tourer has a net under the passenger seat which houses a medical kit, that was missing, my 2 channel JBL amplifer fits perfectly into this and with a little bit extra wiring and a cable tie or two the seat slides without any interference or undue strain to the cabling.

I bought some Calibre CSC-6D component Speakers, now these a superb for the price.... around £50 on eBay, they have active crossovers, which I mounted at the bottom of the door with strong double sided tape. I used autoleads plastic universal 16.5cm spacers and they fit in the doors perfectly... I also dynamatted behind the speaker extensively both the inner and outskin and formed almost a baffle and this really have done the trick, although there's an annoying rattle at certain frequencies but only in the passenger door, really takes the pi** Really with these Speakers you don't need a sub, they're crystal clear and so responsive.

The system truely sounds like a high end home hifi, maybe even as good as the Nakamichi System in my old man's LS430.

There's Kenwoods in the rear doors, running off the headunit just for rear fill and I'm debating whether or not to put a sub in the boot, debating whether or not a quick 10'' or a deep 15'' is the way to go.

Anyway, relatively easily, run the wiring bulkhead at the passenger side, there's a large rubber grommet where all the ECU cables run through, make a small cut tape your power cable to a rigid rod, in my case a welding rod, poke through, remove glovebox, easy two plastic pins underneath just pull out and then feed it through take off side trims and feed it to your desired location... Radio cables are easy to route down the sides of the plastics behind the stereo and the carpet pulls up easily once the trim and plastic clips have been disengaged....

Dynamat or other sound proofing well worth it in my opinion.

Just my 2 cents...

Decent Speakers?
