Alloy Wheel Corrosion Not Covered Under Extended Warranty?

I've just washed my car to find really bad corrosion all around the centres of the wheels, I bought the car 6 months ago and they were fine then so I can only assume because of the terrible snow we had and amount of grit that was on the road the wheels have corroded. I phoned my local dealer and they said they are not covered under the extended warranty, but what about the 1 year approved used scheme, could they be covered under that?

If this happend due to normal usage of the wheel, it can't be covered under the warranty. It's the same if you'd scratch your paintwork and wanted to have it repaired unde the 12years warranty for body paint. It is not a manufacturing fault or any other malfunction of this part. It's just abnormal and extensive wear in my opinion.

Alloy wheel corrosion is not covered under extended warranty OR used car warranty, it is wear and tear I'm afraid

and it has always plagued most toyota alloys.

solutions are to keep them clean and sealed, or get a refurb.

If the car came with them corroded they still wouldn't do anything about it :(

Toyota alloys (At least the earlier ones) are atrocious and seem to corrode if you breath on them!

You could buy better ones, or get the existing ones repaired and powder coated. Latter option has the advantage of not affecting insurance.

Yeah, I just phoned up Toyota UK to verify and they said they are not covered (as Kingo said). By chance I just bought another set of alloys last week so I'll use those ones and take mine in for a refurbish, I suppose 4 years is not too bad for corrosion to begin setting in and if the winter had not been so severe and the wheels kept clean I guess they might have been okay.

Either they aren't sealed properly or the surface lacquer is super thin; My crappy ford fiesta's alloys went through much more abuse and never had half the bubbling and flaking my poor Yaris alloys had! :(

If it's just surface corrosion, getting them refurbished and powder-coated is very cheap (Well, compared to buying a new set!)
