Problem With Vvti

Hi Guys

I went to the diagnostics station and was given the following:

P1346, Variable valve timing oil control valve - circuit malfunction

Probable cause: wiring, oil control valve, ECM

I am driving 2000 Toyota Avensis VVTi 1.8 manual. Have any of you heard of or had similar problem? There is funny noise coming from the engine as well, kind of koncking noise, mechanic said that possibly oil control valve.

Toyota guys told me over the phone that repair might be around 300-400 pounds but that is only rough estimate and they need to see the car first.
